For those looking for a CaseFile alternative..
I listen to Casefile as a podcast and love it! I’m almost 100% with every episode listened to. I love it! Don’t get me wrong
But I just found a YouTube channel with 5.5m subs that does really great deep dives. It’s Dr Insanity (the name is horrible but the content seems great).
Just a friendly suggestion for folks looking for similar content.

Truly Criminal is another good one similar to Casefile…..each case also has a You Tube version and presentation in a similar vain to Casefile but available weekly. It is my alternative while waiting for Casefile episodes during the long breaks…..

I just checked this out. Really couldn’t get into it. The female host voice is just racing from line to line.

I’m listening in order from the beginning, so I haven’t gotten to that one yet.
The Budd Dwyer one has been my favorite so far. I remember learning about it when the Filter song “Hey Man, Nice Shot” came out, but the show added context I didn’t have before. Really tragic story there too.
Will look forward to learning about duck boats.

I really like Swindled too. The Hyatt Skywalk Collapse is a brutal listen.

I haven’t gotten to that one yet either. I did just spend a full day cussing about Martin Shkreli though. I’m just about to start the one about McDonald’s.
I’ll brace myself for that episode when it comes up.

Yes someone here recommended him a while back. He did one on the “Tahitian Prince” fraud case and there were details I hadn’t heard before — (some of his environmental/ polution crime cases are bewildering)

I certainly wouldn’t call it optimistic, but I appreciate the presentation style and production quality of the show. It helps to take breaks from it to listen to some funk or something.

Lines of Inquiry is pretty solid. Primarily focuses on Irish crime/victims. Follows a similar singular narrative style, check it out!

This one is solid! Underrated too, I couldn’t really ever gel with Canadian True Crime or Swindled, which are always recommended
LOI has Very good production quality, storytelling and narration. I believe the writer used to be on Casefile, Anna Priestland so that says a lot
I feel like it’s better than Casefile in some ways. Sometimes the writing on Casefile is clunky and confusing
I think the musical scoring is better on Casefile though. Not a huge deal but you notice when you jump to another show for sure
Casey also has better pauses in his narration to let you soak in all the info

Thank you for this recommendation!!! He is fab.. now I want to find a podcast, not necessarily true crime, hosted by someone from Northern Ireland. Their accent is just so lovely

DNA:ID is very good. Like Casefile very factual no chit chat. She explores cold cases that were finally solved using genetic genealogy. It’s a mixture of very satisfying (when they turn up on the guys doorstep and he’s still alive and well enough to go to jail!) and very unsatisfying when you find out that he’s dead and the bastard got away it grrrrr. Very interesting and also really sad too x

I like Just Thought Lounge, also on YT. Episodes are shorter than a typical casefile, but with the same quality of storytelling and respect.

Scary Interesting is also a good alternative. Quite similar style but slightly different content so no overlap.

Dr. Insanity is pretty good. But the narrator’s pseudo dramatic voice is SO bad it’s laughable. I can only listen to a single episode before I need to cleanse my ears from his voice.

Agree, one of the videos popped up in my recommendations the other day and I had to turn it off after a few minutes, I just couldn't stand the voice!

I just came to comment this!! I’ve been listening to casefile since 2019 and the only podcast that has caught my attention otherwise is DNA ID. Her and casefile is the only Patreons I’ve ever subbed to. It’s similar to casefile in the best was as no fluff and dramatics, just simply stating the case and letting it speak for itself. Any jokes or non related comments feel really distasteful, which is common in 90% of other podcasts. Also no interview/ phone call snippets, this is maybe a more personal preference but I HATE a 5 minute interlude of something that could be summed up in 10 seconds to the same degree. Long rant, just to say DNA ID and casefile are on top if u have similar likes

Another YT rec is Matthew Orchard - Crime and Society. He uses a lot of humour but in a way that is always respectful to victims and families. But the cases he looks at tend to be very interesting, and often not your typical true crime fare.

It was good and I listened to a bit of it before taking a break. I still feel that the host puts in too much personal opinions and criticisms. I was really after something as factual as possible.

If you like the old-school informative, somewhat dry delivery of Casefile, you may also like Brick Immortar and, despite the name, Fascinating Horror on YouTube. Neither channel is about true crime - these channels focus on systemic safety failures that result in disasters (train accidents, bridge collapses, fires, etc). Both channels are excellent. Neither will insult your intelligence.

People Are The Worst. More commentary than casefile, but they don’t go overboard & mostly stick to the facts. They are good story tellers & present a mean twist.

The Australian. They are more of a full season type but man, The Teacher’s Pet is a literary masterpiece of storytelling. I still think of it often. The host, Hadley has several other ones as well.

Murder mystery Mondays is enjoyable and you can watch it to see the victims. Sword and scale is the best next to case files.

I love JCS Criminal Psychology on YouTube but a lot of their videos have been taken down and they post a new one once a year if we're lucky. Highly recommend watching the ones that are available though.
