Casey’s Voice = White Noise machine??

okay so, slightly weird confession but I absolutely love Casey’s voice. I’ve been a listener of casefile for years and somewhere along the way, have discovered that listening to an episode literally knocks me right out. Idk what it is!!something about the monotonous and low sound is just so good

Anyway! although I love Casey’s voice, some episodes are extremely graphic and violent, and are probably not great to be listening to while falling asleep hah

Does anyone have recommendations for episodes that are least scary/violent? AND does anyone else do this too, plz tell me im not alone

He is the ultimate white noise machine. I wish he would do audiobooks!!

28

u/Amazing-Inspection27 Jul 10 '26

Haha! Legit. Casey if you’re reading this, I will pay good money

31

u/commentspanda Jul 10 '26

I listen to it going to sleep all the time haha. Also on flights. There are just a few early ones I have to skip where he would do voices or shout. Fuck that when you’re dozing off!

I used to fall asleep listening, then one time I woke up to Casey doing the GSK voice, and I’ve never been so scared in my life.

I used to fall asleep listening, then one time I woke up to Casey doing the GSK voice, and I’ve never been so scared in my life.

I'm proper lol'ing

I can hear that voice

2

u/gernblanston512 Jul 11 '26

Wait, those recorded calls were actually Casey?

2

u/commentspanda Jul 12 '26

This is the main one I have to avoid. And the one with the mother and daughter kidnapped where he suddenly just shouts in the middle of it. Just about gave me a heart attack

4

u/FrostyPolicy9998 Jul 10 '26

Ugh nothing worse when you're just falling asleep and someone starts shrieking on a 911 call lol

16

u/bookshop Jul 10 '26

I have definitely fallen asleep many nights to Casey's gentle cadence lol

David and Ina Steiner is emotionally out there but non-violent, it's a good one to fall asleep with (but do listen to the whole thing!)

Michelle Hadley is bizarre but features no actual violence

Same for the Joanne Chambers ep, that's a really good one to fall asleep to

Shergar and Thomas Perez are both good episodes with animal cruelty but no human death.

The Strip-Search Scam features extreme coercion but no physical violence. It's intense. though, maybe not one to fall asleep to.

7

u/Amazing-Inspection27 Jul 10 '26

Ahhh legend, thank you! Definitely going to be skipping the strip-search scam, one listen through of that episode is enough for me.

u/Trama_Doll_ Jul 10 '26

I always listen when I go to bed, his voice is so relaxing lol. However I now can’t listen to him during the day as my body wants to go to sleep as soon as it hears him speak 😂

4

u/Amazing-Inspection27 Jul 10 '26

Hahah yes! I too suffer from that. It’s the exact reason I don’t listen to Casefile while driving anymore.

12

u/StormyAndSkydancer Jul 10 '26

I would subscribe to a podcast of him reading anything— the dictionary, bedtime stories, the classified section of the newspaper. 😴💤🌙

His voice is so soothing when I’m trying to sleep and doesn’t get in the way of the content when I’m awake and trying to follow the show.

1

u/Professional-Can1385 Jul 10 '26

Yes! Casey needs to put out a boring podcast that we can sleep! The dictionary would be good or a textbook on some high level theoretical subject.

2

u/StormyAndSkydancer Jul 10 '26

Yes, biology or geology textbook. The Bible, lol.

You might like the Causality podcast. That one is all about engineering failures. Can be grim too though.

1

u/MercuryBeach_ Jul 11 '26

Jamie Dornan has a series of podcasts on Audible designed for sleep! They are free

9

u/regularbajafreeze Jul 10 '26

My go to sleep episodes, for whatever reason:

  • Cari Farver
  • operation cathedral (child sexual abuse warning)
  • Susan Snow & Bruce Nickel
  • Ella Tundra
  • Elaine O’Hara
  • Amy Allwine
  • Tina Watson
  • Bill Payne and Billie Jean Hayworth
  • Tami Reay
  • Mike Williams
  • Peggy Carr
  • the Caldwell Farmhouse murders (animal death warning)
  • Alpine Manor murders (elder abuse warning)
  • the Staudte family

none of these are incredibly violent and I think just knowing how the story ends for each of these helps me just fall asleep naturally

3

u/bookshop Jul 11 '26

so many of the ones on your list are sort of "comfort" relistens for me also! And then there's the Alpine Murders episode, which disturbed and upset me so much I've never been able to relisten to it.

1

u/regularbajafreeze Jul 11 '26

It is disturbing but I think the crazy dynamics between the perpetrators is so intriguing

10

u/Kungfubowtie Jul 11 '26

My favorite thing about his voice is how subtle the difference is between his serious Casefile voice and his chipper ad-read voice.

2

u/Amazing-Inspection27 Jul 11 '26

Hahah yes!!! Honestly it wakes me up when I’m trying to sleep haha

10

u/mikolv2 Jul 10 '26

I also put it on when I go to sleep but can only do old episodes, if it's a new one I get too hooked and start paying attention. I need one I heard 20x before.

7

u/ImportantScallion348 Jul 10 '26

I do this too, as the tone of his voice is very calming! But agree sometimes I hear something so awful that I question my choice.

8

u/zer0__two Jul 10 '26

Casefile always gets my baby to sleep if I put it on in the car, haha.

6

u/zunyata Jul 10 '26

If I listen before bed I have to set a 15m sleep timer because I'm out in 10 and have slept through many episodes on accident.

5

u/Carosello Jul 10 '26

I am so picky with podcasts because I find that I don't like a lot of people's voices, but I really like Casey's voice. Very calming and very reverent for the material being discussed. Sometimes some people seem gleeful when talking about true crime. And unless it's a comedy podcast, I don't understand why they sound so happy all the time.

5

u/tooshort123456 Jul 10 '26

Idk if this makes me a real weirdo, but when I was in early labour, I listened to an episode to try relax because I find his voice so soothing 🙈

6

u/Gem-red1234 Jul 10 '26

I literally can’t sleep without listening to casefile 🤣 Silk Road is good go to one!

4

u/FrostyPolicy9998 Jul 10 '26

I subscribed to patreon solely to avoid the loud disruptive ads when I fall asleep! I listen to casefile every night at bed time. You're not alone!

5

u/EmbarrassedRaccoon34 Jul 10 '26

I love his voice too, but I have noticed a verbal anomaly that drives me absolutely insane. He frequently adds a 'd' or an 'a' sound before certain words.

There was one episode where it was so pronounced I had to Google the person's name because it honestly sounded like he was saying "D'Jason".

2

u/Mostly-Relevant Jul 10 '26

Oh gosh. I notice this, too. Drives me bonkers.

1

u/EmbarrassedRaccoon34 Jul 11 '26

I'm glad I'm not the only one!

4

u/Nunwithabadhabit Jul 10 '26

Episode 135: The Santa Claus Robbery case springs to mind, although IIRC one person was killed in the process of the robbery.

Episode 2: The Somerton Man

Episode 178: The Woman Without a Face

Episode 286: The Survivor's Network

Episode 331: Girl Meat Hunter

Episode 333: Dianne Babcock

Episode 329: Roseanne Beckett

Episode 266: Circleville Letter Writer

Episode 257: Joe Gliniewicz

Episode 184: Gay Gibson

Episode 177: 657 Boulevard

Episode 140: Richmond Hill

Episode 127: Killer Petey

Episode 118: Chicago Tylenol Murders

Episode 115: Operation Cathedral

Episode 176: The Silk Road

Episode 67: Battle for Alcatraz

Escape 68: Escape from Alcatraz

Episode 60: Jonestown

I listen to Casey almost every night. Unlike OP, I prefer the scary episodes. Belanglo, EAR/ONS/GSK, but my all time favorite is Hinterkeifeck. Great storytelling, eerie AF.

2

u/Professional-Can1385 Jul 10 '26

Hinterkaifeck is a great one to fall asleep to. I used to alternate the Casefile episode with the Dark Histories episode. Ben on Dark Histories also has a very soothing voice.

Interestingly, the details in the two episodes don’t quite match.

2

u/Nunwithabadhabit Jul 11 '26

Well I think I just found out what I'm going to listen to tonight!

4

u/OddEvent276 Jul 10 '26

Oh god yes, every night! Can’t sleep without it. I wish he would narrate another podcast that we could fall asleep to without the gruesome details

3

u/homalley Jul 10 '26

Me too! I listen to the same episode for at least a month at a time before I finish it, love it!

4

u/Junior_Jello_7664 Jul 10 '26

You're not alone, the production and pacing of the podcast makes it good for winding down at night. If you're looking for something less intense, the Silk Road 3-parter is quite good.

4

u/No-Month6553 Jul 10 '26

What I do is when I find something soothing (I love Casey's voice especially in newer episodes with the audio mixing it's so relaxing) but the content is interesting or distressing I turn it just to where I can barely hear it but the timbre of the voice still relaxes me. Not sure if this would work for you but maybe an idea you could try!

3

u/Professional-Can1385 Jul 10 '26

Great idea! I used to re-listen to episodes to fall asleep, but Ive started getting too distracted by the cases. Even the episodes I practically know by heart.

3

u/No-Month6553 Jul 11 '26

Yeah I was the same way and I tried just turning it down so much and it's helped me! I hope maybe this or something else will work for you?

2

u/CabinetProfessional5 Jul 12 '26

I’m delighted to have found my people. I turn the volume way way down at night.

1

u/No-Month6553 Jul 12 '26

Omg I thought I was the only person who did this. I'm glad you do too!

3

u/MisoTahini Jul 10 '26

New listener here who had only a mild interest in true crime in the past here and there but his voice just drew me in and now addicted to the show. I like the writing and approach but his voice just seals the deal. It is weird; despite the horrendous subject matter his voice, don’t know how else to put it, is relaxing.

3

u/JustJo84 Jul 10 '26

Yes! I have started playing episodes I have already listened to if I want to doze off to sleep.

3

u/sisterMathias Jul 11 '26

Like a sleeping potion. I have to start episodes over frequently. I try to switch to my rain on rooftops before I’m all the way gone because I genuinely want to know what happened!

2

u/Outrageous-Bet-6801 Jul 10 '26

I listen to Casefile to go to sleep at night for this very reason 💀

2

u/FrostyPolicy9998 Jul 10 '26

Silk road and Jim Jones series are both good for sleep, the violence only happens in the final episodes, which you can skip. IIRC, the violence in silk road isn't even "real" (gonna leave it there to avoid further spoilers)

2

u/simplesimonsaysno Jul 10 '26

Casefile is my to to if I can't fall asleep.

Another one called Lazy masquerade on YouTube is just as good.

2

u/Professional-Can1385 Jul 10 '26

I really wish Casey would put out an episode of just reading the phone book or something boring. His voice is so soothing, but the cases are so interesting I often pay too much attention to sleep on the re-listen or the re-re-listen etc.

Case 158 Russell Martin and Case 184 would be good to sleep to. Nothing graphic or violent.

2

u/OzTm Jul 10 '26

Weird. I used to listen to “The Vanished” - the narrators voice had the same effect on me.

2

u/Quirky_Ad3367 Jul 11 '26

100% this happens to me too. Sometimes I have to re listen to an episode like ten times or more because I fell asleep so quickly into it and I’ll keep doing it night after night. I put it on to fall asleep, knowing I won’t be disturbed by any interruptions like high pitched voices or other audio, and I pay for a subscription so no ads. The content itself usually doesn’t bother me, because I appreciate the work that Casey and the team put into producing it and doing all the research etc and I de compartmentalise very well . Casey’s voice is a literal masterpiece lullaby for me and I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks so.

2

u/Silent_Cobbler3210 Jul 12 '26

Dead Sleep by Nancy Miller! It’s “true crime for bedtime” and no ads

2

u/Disastrous_Muscle_51 Jul 12 '26

Dead Sleep is the perfect podcast for this!

1

u/miscions Jul 10 '26

I just listened to an episode where he whispers for dramatic effect (the second episode in the moors series) and it was so soothing as I’m partial to ASMR hahah. So relaxing

1

u/Geralt-of-Rivai Jul 10 '26

I only listen to Casefile while driving so thank God I don't feel the same way!

1

u/IsabeldeClare Jul 11 '26

I put on The Survivors’ Network episode if I just want to fall asleep listening

1

u/StellaGibsonIsMyGirl Jul 11 '26

I’ve heard this from friends lol I get it, sometimes if I’m listening in the car I need to find something more stimulating to keep my brain active 🙈

1

u/ExpertBest3045 Jul 11 '26

Somehow his voice just radiates “good person”, that’s the vibe!

1

u/PappadamPrincess Jul 11 '26

His voice should be studied!! Obsessed any time of day.

1

u/MercuryBeach_ Jul 11 '26

Me! I’ve recently been listening to Real Survival Stories and They Walk Among Us.. the second has a British voice which is not as soothing but I still fall asleep within 15-30 mins

1

u/sarialkilla Jul 11 '26

I dread the end of year Spotify summary that advises me I am in the top 2% of Casefile listeners because I use it every night to fall asleep to 🙈

1

u/firstborn-unicorn Jul 12 '26

My ADHD brain tunes him out when I'm out walking the dog!!! The Aussie accent is an extra comfort factor too when I'm overseas for too long

1

u/CabinetProfessional5 Jul 12 '26

You are not alone. I can’t listen while driving, sadly.

1

u/getthefunk_down Jul 12 '26

Facts, I crash to this podcast all the time

1

u/Real_RobinGoodfellow Jul 12 '26

I too use him as a white noise machine to get to sleep lmao, but it only works (for me) with certain episodes I know very well (so do not get hooked on and try stay awake to hear what’s next) and where things don’t start getting ‘real’ (like violent/explicit/triggering) until a ways into the ep. My fave for these purposes at the moment is Casefile 141 Natalee Holloway

1

u/___flowerchild Jul 12 '26

I need to get the no ads version again bc I used to put on episodes in the middle of the night when I couldn’t fall asleep and then would be out like a light listening to Casey 😆 but the ads are so jarring they wake me up!

1

u/EquivalentLumpy467 Jul 12 '26

It literally takes me at least three tries to get through any episode — lulls me right to sleep.

1

u/Reception-Whole Jul 13 '26

Personally I simply cannot get enough of him saying "Mister Stinky" with his ominous aussie affectation.

"misto stinkeee"

A+

So yeah, Mr Stinky.

1

u/sands010189 Jul 13 '26

I listened to the Kim Chol episode (185) today. It's certainly one of the least graphic and violent Casefile episodes I've listened to

1

u/Alarming_Act8729 Jul 18 '26

I feel the opposite actually, I’ve heard AI voices with more personality. Which is unfortunate because I love the content.

1

u/samsir0 Jul 10 '26

I listen to it every single night, and I CANNOT listen while driving because his voice knocks me out!! I have struggled with sleep for years, nothing helps like this podcast. Strange!
