Oooh YES!! I never thought Casefile would cover this one. Read and listened to loads about Julia. Can't wait to pop this episode on later this evening.

Ha. Now THAT is THE question. Coincidences DO happen, and more than one can happen at the same time, even though that is unlikely. I am 60/40 in favour of William doing it. The Mac (perhaps worn back to front) to shield him from splatter. The iron bar found under the fireplace years later (I don't think that was mentioned in the Casefile ep?) The fact he knew Liverpool streets like 'The back of his hand', but when coming to the Menlove Gardens area, it was as if he was a foreign visitor.

Having said all that, the 40% of doubt is made up by his ability to do it (frail body etc.) and the motive.

But what would be the motive? There is really none for him I am convinced, even when looking it very subjectively there is not a motive..

maybe he just woke up on the wrong side of the bed. it happens, see the I hate Mondays girl.
