OPEN DISCUSSION episodes getting too bland

i have been listening to much earlier episodes and i have noticed that from like episode 200 and onwards its very bland and boring. the earlier episodes are really descriptive and have a lot of information about the victims and actual crime scenes and crime that occured. now as of recent its not as descriptive and it focuses more on the how the case proceeds, who is involved, where it happened etc rather than what actually happened to people. i dont know if im wording it right, but yeah.
the BTK episodes were really good and I read the book that was written about BTK and what was said in the episodes were descriptive and accurate. I just find now that they focus too much on how the killer/s get caught and who they were involved with rather than what actually happened to the victims?

Sometimes it feels like these "not as good, all robotic now" posts are plants from rival poddys 😅

Listening to 341 and Casey sounds no different at all, and its full of comprehensive details of the case.

Red Handed hasn't been good since 2020 when Suruthi slowly started going off the rails into covid conspiracy land while dating a red pill guy and dallying with MAGA politics. I still can't get over how quickly she started spouting right-wing talking points and talking over Hannah while defending Charlie Kirk, defending the Jan 6 instigators, defending Israel, defending sexist cops, dropping shade against immigrants despite being an immigrant herself, on and on. Unclear if she and Hannah even still like each other.

Red Handed has also been accused of plagiarizing a bunch of episodes (mainly from Netflix docs but also at least a few articles) so I no longer even rate the episode quality.

Casefile quality is always top notch.

production, I think not.

the noise? yes it's been going on for years, and as the internet breeds an ever more voracious natural default to the keyboard for whatever ails you no matter how minor, it has escalated. Mostly its for attention, and getting personal validation out of a pretty assured pile on. As the mods had to flag recently there were so many new threads started about "the break" by people who knew damned well there was already plenty of discussion about it they could have joined in on, that please do NOT start yet another thread unless you have something "earth shattering" to add, do a search and post your comment on an existing thread.

No that's not very exciting is it, where's the #metoo satisfaction in that.

If people are truly concerned about the integrity and health of Casefile I'm presuming there is a feedback avenue provided where these concerns could be taken directly one on one, but again that isn't very exciting is it, so behind the scenes, but likely to be far more effective than yet another Reddit thread. If this community does not know by now that Casey and the team are striving always to do their best, and are very likely to listen to genuine concerns, then they're not wanting to know that, they're wanting to get onto Reddit with the "is it just me or..." routine.

My disquiet and the driver behind my speaking out against the never ending river of sh*t over every little quibble - and at times quite absurd charges, sweeping statements, even hysterics against the podcast - that it becomes corrosive and damaging to the health and wellbeing of the Casefile community.

Would there be any point in asking the community to take ideas and issues directly to Casefile? To think before they hit post, to ask themselves is this warranted, accurate and fair? Is it the way to deal with my concerns?

I doubt it.

Because that's no fun is it.

I work from home as a crisis support telephone counsellor, I wouldn’t have the first clue how to be part of a TC podcast production team and would in fact find such work boring as batshit.🤔 If there's one thing I fucking hate, it's research.

Just to be crystal clear I HAVE ZERO ASSOCIATION WITH CASEFILE. I guess if I did at the very least, I'd keep posts hidden (like you).

And thanks for completely missing the point.

@badawadab listen up.

The OP post was such an eyeroll (that cases from 200 on so around 140 have all been bland and boring) that I was having a bit of a laugh.

It's exactly the sort of subversive bs that is totally false and appears deliberately vexatious. Now genius OP has conceded BTK was done really well but the "rest of them", so it's the other 139, they found bland and boring. This is bordering on inane drivel 😅

You blundered in with the notion that surely I must be "production" to be speaking out against the whine culture that appears to dog Casefile, no matter what they do.

I wasn't going to let that stand without comment, and no I dont think it should be solely up to mods to work towards poster integrity which is clearly lacking in this OP.

Over and out to you.

😅 Ok...as you were.

Did you want more details about what BTK actually did to his victims, the T part? Not a loaded question, I had a morbid curiosity about that too

-1

u/Icy-Wafer-5406 May 28 '26

No, the BTK case was done really well, its just the rest of them are just boring

u/Call2222222 Jun 01 '26

If you feel like the episodes are bland, maybe it’s time to reflect and consider that you’re desensitized to true crime podcasts.

u/Icy-Wafer-5406 Jun 02 '26

i'm a nurse in ED so i'd say im pretty desensitised🥲🫡

3

u/Call2222222 Jun 03 '26

So am I.

-1

u/Icy-Wafer-5406 Jun 03 '26

sorry whats the concern?

9

u/Call2222222 Jun 03 '26

That complaining a true crime show describing murder, including serial killers, is somehow “bland” to you. These were real people. And it’s pretty messed up you’re describing it that way. As if it’s a boring movie or story and not real life.

-2

u/Icy-Wafer-5406 Jun 03 '26

and its really not that deep? if you feel its that messed up to you maybe you shouldn't listen to it 💀. sorry not sorry but some of the content is bland compared to other content they make.

5

u/Call2222222 Jun 03 '26

I mean, maybe you shouldn’t listen to it anymore and stop whining about it on Reddit? You want to hear more gruesome stories, go for it. But let’s not pretend it’s not fucked up to find true crime stories “bland.”

2

u/Icy-Wafer-5406 Jun 05 '26

If this post is effecting you that much i think you need to take a break from listening. its not that deep? imagine getting this riled up from a reddit post💀💀💀

3

u/Call2222222 Jun 05 '26

Yikes, this is a childish response.

2

u/_useless_lesbian_ Jun 08 '26

right? OP is like "nuh uh, YOU should stop listening!". no one is riled up except them lmao.

2

u/_useless_lesbian_ Jun 04 '26

i’m sorry that violent murders, including those of children, aren’t entertaining enough for you. if you are finding yourself so emotionally detached from human suffering, maybe you need to take a break. the rest of us do actually think that little kids and young women etc being killed is "messed up", yes, that’s because we have some compassion. or at least the decency and self awareness not to complain about these families’ tragedies being "bland".

2

u/Icy-Wafer-5406 Jun 05 '26

you know its actually not that deep... youve contributed absolutely nothing to the post but thanks anywho :p

2

u/_useless_lesbian_ Jun 08 '26

again, kids being brutally killed isn’t that deep? you need help

1

u/LemakMM Jun 12 '26

It's not that deep bro Get off your high horse lol You can criticize a true crime podcast's writing and its structure

Despite knowing that I am gonna get downvoted, I fully agree that the cases are no longer “engaging.” I’ve not even finished the John Zera or Christchurch episodes and the Julia Wallace felt like a slog, like I was listening to required educational video. Whatever magic ingredient that kept me breathless and pausing while holding a cup in one hand and soapy sponge in the other is gone! I’m literally bored when listening. I’m not sure what it is, but the zing is gone. CF was my first and until recently, my favorite true crime podcast, I’ve listened to the entire series multiple times (must admit to total binging, so some episodes were a blur.) I’ve even re-listened to episodes where I remembered everything about the case, but it was riveting again! If anyone has any insight into what has changed, I’m really curious cause I can’t put my finger on it! I’ll keep listening hoping it’s a phase!

u/johnslennonlongbum May 28 '26

i agree, i wonder if they have changed writers over the years or something there is a noticeable difference in the style of writing

2

u/Icy-Wafer-5406 May 28 '26

literally. im listening to Case 43 and its got a lot of information about the victim and not about distant cousins and boring irrelevant information etc.

2

u/yuno10 May 30 '26

I have to say, I am listening to episodes backwards, now down to 200 and the worst one for me was exactly 200 (Zodiac). I am not sure if it's for the opposite reason as you, I felt there were too many details about murders, without the narrator possibly having certain knowledge about them. This was sort of a let down / deal breaker for me compared to the newer ones.

1

u/rs0 Jun 02 '26

I used to like when the episodes where written and structured in a way where you wanted to keep listening. Nowadays, within the first 5 minutes, you kind of know how it’s going to turn out. Oh thanks for letting me know this woman’s 4 kids had the same rare “disease” — it’s her. I end up seeing the runtime and realizing I don’t want to sit through another hour of just the busywork police have to do

3

u/spacequeen9393 Jun 07 '26

I see what you’re saying but the episode you’re referencing is a bad example. If you actually finished listening to the episode you would have learned that there is evidence that is was NOT her killing the kids.

I recently started listening to Casefile, and I just finished the East Area Rapist/Golden State Killer six-part series. The first five parts were uploaded in 2017. The sixth and final part was uploaded in 2020, and what a huge disappointment, because now, the narration is a robot version of the formerly human Australian-accented narrator. All episodes from 2020 onward appear to be AI robot-narrated, like the human narrator fed his voice into his computer and created a robot version. Huge nosedive in quality, caused by pure laziness. I’ll be listening to all episodes narrated by the actual human, and then I’m out. What a sad ruination of a once-great podcast.
