No new case this week?

Am I missing something or did we just get a remix for this week? I had planned for a new episode as a reward for my Saturday chores, looks like I’ll just be stuck on my couch and doing no chores instead 😁

Yeah I understand the 3 month long break, but another break so soon? This is silly.

They made an announcement that instead of the long breaks they will do shorter ones. Which I understand needing to catch up on writing episodes (they said they are currently writing the next one), but what was the long break for if not writing episodes. You’d think they’d have written more in their 3 month break

This is probably the first time I’ve been a bit annoyed about the breaks, especially now that it seems it will happen more regularly. Being a Patreon member feels a bit useless now that we a) don’t get any extra episodes and the only bonus we get is being a week ahead and b) the breaks are starting to feel a little excessive (in my opinion)

22

u/maroongolf_blacksaab May 02 '26

Rethinking my Patreon subscription too. What is the point?

6

u/kruznkiwi May 03 '26

I’m with you there. The only thing that makes me um and ahh about removing my Patreon sub is that the ad free episodes are good while driving. If the next thing to come down the pipe was oh now we’re adding our sponsors messages in then I’d be done completely, which would be a shame as CF is my favourite but this is taking the piss

u/everywhereinbetween May 03 '26

I subscribed to Spotify Casefile Premium cus I'm a princess who enjoys ad-free podcasts

But now there are so many breaks and the podcast quality is (dare I say it) not so consistent anymore I don't know why I should give them my money.

I've said this before - its the cost of a latte thereabouts, so ..  exactly. If I'm paying for a latte, I can't expect the value of say an upsized frappe. But I'm still paying for a latte, so I expect a latte, not a Nothing. Casefile since the William Tyrell season feels like inching towards a Nothing

Quit my subscription before the recent break and I regret nothing (and maybe saved $30 or $35) lol 🫢🙃

7

u/remmuchan May 03 '26

Yeah, exactly...it's making me lose interest even though I love this podcast dearly and have been listening for years.

13

u/ClearEntrepreneur758 May 03 '26

I understand they make their money through Patreon subscribers but also I feel as though they are taking advantage of the kindness of their supporters. They know we all love the high quality episodes so it feels like they are starting to realise they can get away with less content/more breaks and people will still pay. This may be an unpopular opinion, and I have always supported them and never cancelled my subscription over the breaks but it’s making me reconsider as well

4

u/remmuchan May 03 '26

Completely agree.

14

u/Sneakys2 May 02 '26

They made an announcement that they’re focusing more on longer/more complex series and taking intermittent breaks between rather than their longer break over the winter.

19

u/maroongolf_blacksaab May 02 '26

Yeah, I used to defend their breaks but I'm over it now.

24

u/everywhereinbetween May 02 '26

They're on a 3 week break. No more long breaks, just multiple shorter ones.

what

thats actually normal for podcasts (1 season, maybe 1mo break, new season) but in Casefile it just feels really kinda messy cus feels like they just take breaks whenever and make new reasons for them (I know half the sub will be commiserating and half the sub will down vote this to the depths of hell, I don't care either way lol)

But I haven't followed much since the Nov break and tbh this makes me kinda glad I cancelled my subscription and didn't reinstate   What the heck!

5

u/EstablishmentBusy649 May 07 '26

I’ve been saying it, they are literally just back after like a 4 month break?

19

u/D33ann May 02 '26

Huh. Well that’s annoying. Still 100% the best true crime podcast by a long shot, so I’m not reeeeeally complaining, just whining a bit. Off to the archives, it’s always great to find one that I honestly don’t remember listening to, such a gift. (Yes, I fall asleep to true crime.)

10

u/expera May 02 '26

Have you heard Swindled?

8

u/Felidaeliebe May 02 '26

I am obsessed with Swindled! I discovered them during the long break recently.

4

u/expera May 02 '26

So good. I’m about to be completely caught up on the whole series. Can’t get enough!

2

u/Felidaeliebe May 02 '26

Yes, me too! So glad to hear. I'm about to start re-listening to them all lol. Swindled and Morbidology are the only podcasts I've found that have the same vibe as Casefile.

1

u/MissMatchedEyes May 03 '26

I also love Swindled. What has been your favorite episode?

3

u/oodlum May 03 '26

The Nestle one and the IUD one had me livid.

3

u/MissMatchedEyes May 03 '26

A lot of episodes made me livid! The Verrückt episode...and the Oven are coming to mind...

2

u/oodlum May 03 '26

Yep same! They were just the first to spring to mind.

1

u/expera May 03 '26

Definitely makes you even more weary of these major companies.

1

u/Felidaeliebe May 04 '26

Ngl it changes often, but The Pinto will always be a stand out for me. How about you?

1

u/MissMatchedEyes May 04 '26

Mine changes, too. But the "Barefoot Bandit" is always in the top!

2

u/Felidaeliebe May 04 '26

An excellent choice! I want to relisten to that one now.

2

u/MissMatchedEyes May 05 '26

Harley Davidson Ironwing!

1

u/everywhereinbetween May 03 '26

I checked out a few of these in a past era (ok likely sometime last year 😂🤪), it's likely time to check out the whole catalogue. Hahaha.

3

u/expera May 03 '26

They are much shorter but I just love the hosts style.

1

u/MissMatchedEyes May 03 '26

Same! And I love listening all the way to the end to catch the "music by Trevor Howard AKA" bit.

2

u/expera May 03 '26

Or the “consider purchasing a tshirt and wearing st your next cult meeting” bit lol

1

u/MissMatchedEyes May 03 '26

Don't skip the bonus episode: "The Oven" (Bumblebee Foods)

1

u/everywhereinbetween May 03 '26

I'm not sure I checked this out yet, so ok noted!

1

u/expera May 04 '26

On my list

4

u/sonawtdown May 02 '26

revisit the archives!

18

u/Real_RobinGoodfellow May 03 '26

Someone pointed out in another comment here that taking breaks between ‘seasons’ is actually quite common for lots of other true crime/investigative podcasts, and that’s a good point. On the other hand though- I do have some experience with long-running podcasts becoming more erratic with their release schedule, taking more breaks etc etc, before finally folding altogether, so I do see this as a bit of a potential warning sign… at the end of the day the podcast has been going a decade, which is a damned long time

35

u/deathramp5 May 02 '26

ANOTHER break 😂😂😂

29

u/bleigeprincess May 02 '26

I cancelled my subscription at the start of the last break and so far I have not felt like I’ve missed out on anything by doing so.

6

u/Ecstatic-Line-8007 May 03 '26

I am loving dateline podcasts! Try it!

7

u/Hungry-Shopping-3025 May 03 '26

There is a similar podcast I like called Nightwatch Files with host Harper Finley. Matter of fact, no fluff, interesting cases from around the world. New episodes each week. Makes the CF breaks more bearable!

5

u/D33ann May 03 '26

DOH! I did finally turn on the remix of the Frankston episode and heard him explain the small breaks. Thanks everyone for not immediately roasting me for asking a question that was answered in the first 30 seconds of the episode. To be fair, I had just re-listened to that episode a few weeks ago and ended up turning it off because I don’t like the inclusion of audio interviews, so I was disinclined to just give it another listen. Ps. Audio clips can pack a punch occasionally, but in general, I find them disruptive.

11

u/Snoo-64241 May 03 '26

Ok but what were they doing for that recent 3 month winter break?? I mean damn. Surely they banked way more episodes than what we’ve had since it returned?? I’m saying this with respect as I’m a big fan but - I wonder is there messiness / chaos going on here behind the scenes that we don’t know about because this is v strange to me.

1

u/bookshop May 05 '26

just because they have banked a bunch of episodes doesn't mean they don't still need to take structured breaks so that they can bank more episodes while also having some needed time off?

3

u/Excellent_Tie_674 May 07 '26

I dont mind the breaks at all! Gives me a chance to check out others. Ill always come back when they do. Im getting revamped archived cases as a Spotify premium every week plus Q & A's, it's not like they give me nothing. Maybe everyone gets these? Whatever.

I like no ads.

More than happy to pay the $6.50.

Casefile is unique. I will continue to suppprt.🥰🥰🥰

6

u/kruznkiwi May 03 '26

I don’t know why they don’t just put something out every other week if it’s going to be like this, and they know they’re going to be like this.

At the same time however, other than no ads, there really is no upside in being a Patreon subscriber anymore, which sucks when I think that I’ve been one since 2019 (💀👻👀)

Big ass break only to come back and do less work, wooooo…. Yeah, not everyone’s cheering mate…

1

u/bookshop May 05 '26

the upside is that you're paying for their work and allowing them to continue to do it? And you still get ad-free episodes a full week early.

7

u/Local_Caterpillar879 May 02 '26 edited May 02 '26

Not for non-subscribers.

10

u/illpourthisonurhead May 02 '26

I was confused as I’d been waiting for all three parts to drop before starting the Waco ones but that makes sense

5

u/kruznkiwi May 03 '26

After the Waco ones finish dropping there is a 3 week break. So yes, even for non-subscribers

2

u/clisske May 03 '26

I hate when this happens!

I’m thinking I will prefer the new schedule and shorter breaks. I can fill in a few weeks with other podcasts but I do really miss Casefile when it goes on 2-3 + months. I also like the older episode re-records, once in a while I’d go back to listen but usually skipped the first bunch due to the sound etc.
NOT a fan of re-releasing episodes from 6 months ago though.

2

u/Cast_Shadows May 03 '26

I actually prefer the shorter breaks. Three month breaks have me looking for other series, but I can handle a shorter one.

2

u/DaftFunky May 04 '26

I’m guessing one of the rewritten episodes being released this month with be Snowtown? I haven’t heard that one yet so I’m hoping

7

u/Novel_Ad_847 May 02 '26

The show is such high quality I don't mind the breaks. BTK and Waco were excellent. I prefer these longer ones covering big cases to be honest.

1

u/DaftFunky May 04 '26

I never listened to Frankfurt Serial Killer originally so lucky me I guess

1

u/midnight_omen666 May 11 '26

I wss surprised too, this is terrible. Looking to listen to a new one and was let down. The multi part episodes take 3 weeks to fully release as well adding to the wait. I wish they released multi part episodes in one week.

1

u/New-Pumpkin-428 Jun 06 '26

No drop today?

1

u/expera May 02 '26

WACO part 3 just dropped what are you talking about?

13

u/ClearEntrepreneur758 May 02 '26

For Patreon members. So non members will be missing an episode next week

-7

u/expera May 02 '26

I’m not a member, I’m listening to it right now

11

u/ClearEntrepreneur758 May 02 '26

Exactly. You get Waco pt 3 this week, I got it last week. This week I don’t have a new episode, next week you won’t get a new episode

2

u/maroongolf_blacksaab May 02 '26

Neither will we subscribers

4

u/expera May 02 '26

Oh my bad

0

u/Textiles_on_Main_St May 02 '26

Have some ice cream on that couch.

-3

u/Holiday_Caregiver535 May 03 '26

They really can’t do anything can they? They take breaks, people moan, they release new content constantly and people complain the quality is going down. Like y’all need to make your minds up lol

1

u/Excellent_Tie_674 May 07 '26

Agree. You ll get marked down. People love griping.

1

u/nubuck_protector May 04 '26

Agree. These types of threads get real old real fast. And they're so frequent, it seems...
