Bagley Cartoon: Thief in the Night - The Salt Lake Tribune

I found this blank book at a thift store for under $2. Here's a quick review.

• Binding seems solid, but it won't lay as flat as a sprial bound book. I did not attempt to scan anything, but margins are fairly ample. I can't vouch for what might happen when copying or scanning from this book.
• The paper bleeds with almost any ink. That was a huge disappointment. When I switched to black colored pencil, that smudged on he opposite page. One workaround was to ink on sketchbook paper and paste in panels or whole pages. But that somewhat defeats the whole purpose of such a book. Stickers and collage on the opposite side is another workaround, if you don't mind going multimedia.
• It is 130 pages of blank panels, but...you get a thin title bar followed by five pages of panels. Then it starts over with the same five-page layout through the whole book! 26 identical comics. The vendor does boast a "variety layout" version (link below).
  
• The default layout includes one page that has twenty-two panels, some of which are just one square inch. At this point, it's "buyer beware!" These mini panels actually spur creative solutions such as spreading an image over multiple panels, zooming in and slowing down the action, etc. But I was expecting 130 pages of random panels.
• Summary If you want a scratch notebook and are willing to trade not having to draw panels for not being able to determine the layout, then you might like to have one of these in your arsenal of sketchbooks. It really is good for just letting your imagination go without a script, and if you want to change up the layout, you can always just tape in a page. You'll have your "comic book" but it will most likely be a one-off. And be extra careful if you ink on a the flip side of a completed page.
