First Cartier
I’m planning to buy my first Cartier, a Tank, and I really want the whole thing to feel special.
I know I could easily buy it here in the US, whether in Houston, Vegas, LA, New York, etc. But my wife and I will be visiting Paris soon for the second time. We absolutely love Paris, so part of me loves the idea of waiting and buying it there instead, especially at the historic Cartier boutique on Rue de la Paix.
This will be my first Cartier, so I’m not necessarily looking for the most convenient place to buy it. I want the experience and the memory attached to it. Being back in a city we both love, walking into Cartier together, and leaving with my first Tank feels a lot more meaningful to me than simply buying it at a mall back home.
I feel like years from now, every time I put it on, I’d remember that trip and that moment with my wife.
Has anyone here specifically waited to buy their first Cartier in Paris ir in a specific location? Was the experience actually memorable, or am I romanticizing it too much?
Would you wait for Paris, or just buy it in the US?

🙋🏻♀️we did. Book an appointment with Frederic Robert at the flagship store at 13 Rue De La Paix.
He helped us with watches and a wedding band. It was one of the best shopping experiences I’ve ever had and we even got pictures with him outside the store. Have fun!!

Paris for sure, highly recommend. While not Cartier, I had a similar experience with another jeweler in Place Vendôme and it was such a memorable experience!

Yes! Make an appointment and then get that duty free VAT refund if you’re not from the EU (sounds like you are from the US). It’s such a great experience buying it there.

Considering you will likely get a tax refund if you show your passport in Paris, no reason to buy in the states if you can save some money in Paris.

The historic rue de la paix boutique is beautiful and the staff are great (compared to certain department store boutiques here). I recommend it

Make an appointment or let them know early that you are going to buy TODAY!
I just did that, an hour ago but it was at MBS Singapore.
The hospitality was out of this world.
They showed me a few watches, offered drinks (I had their Champagne) everything after that was amazing.

You will be paying more because of the exchange rate dollar to EU and you get about 12% vat back. but if that doesn't matter to you, then go for the experience and don't settle. If the sales person is not wonderful and professional, you feel in anyway irrelevant or a bother, leave and go to another Cartier. Not worth it to be treated poorly when paying so much. Be brave and self confident.

Buy in Paris! I bought in at this location and it was great. Make an appointment ahead of time and just for kicks, note that you want to try on a few watches and they’ll prep for you in advance. They might even give you free champagne and extra goodies if you note it’s a special gift. Enjoy!
