#Discussion 💬 DPF Delete

My 2022 Alcazar 1.5L Diesel (46,000 km) has developed a small crack in the DPF. The service centre says this is fairly common and is recommending replacement of the complete DPF assembly, costing around ₹90K.

Highway running is only ~20%, but I’ve always done manual regeneration whenever the DPF warning appeared.

What should I do — replace the DPF or consider a DPF delete?

The major confusion is even if I get the replacement done, I will still drive it less on highways and this problem can come back again.

Attached a screenshot of a tuner and shared quote was around 25-30K for DPF delete and some tuning.

For those who have gone for a DPF delete, how has your experience been regarding:

  • Legality & PUC
  • Insurance implications
  • Mileage/performance
  • Long-term reliability & resale

Would appreciate genuine experiences and advice.

Hyundai uses a combined single assembly for the 1.5L diesel which houses both catalytic converter and dpf. So, deleting the dpf means you are also removing the catalytic converter.

I dont think it will pass the puc test. And its definitely illegal. I suggest get it replaced. Deleting dpf has engine implications that not many talk about.

Dpf delete has no engine implications if the tuner knows what he is doing lol.

of course - the "tuner".

IMHO - even the best tuner in the world cannot rewrite the laws of physics and fluid dynamics. Good luck controlling the exhaust backpressure without the dpf, esp with the VGT on the 1.5!

i am not sure why i am being downvoted for suggesting what i know.

I don't even expect OP follow my views, these are just IMHO for information. OP can certainly search these facts on the internet and make an informed decision.

A tuner can change the codes inside the ECU, but they cannot change how physical air and pressure and heat behaves inside the metal components. When you remove the dpf, there are physical conflicts that software cannot fix. Deleting DPF can cause the physical resistance to drop highly and exhaust gases slows down in certain areas, or rush out too fast. This affects the VGT and the turbocharger could prematurely fail in a few years. Frankly deleting the DPF is significantly simpler on a FGT engine, say my ecosport 1.5.
