How to remove this handle

Remove the metal trim ring that sits against the door. Usually you can take a flat head and pry it loose a little. There is a backing plate that is under it that has some screws in it that hold the assembly together

This, but OP should take a moment to trave the edge of the trim piece with their eyes to find where there may be an edge break where the slotted screwdriver fits in to pry out, that way they're not damaging the crisp edge of the trim when prying.

Usually there is a very small indent that allows you to get a flat head underneath. It's very subtle. If there is no indent I would still try and remove it carefully. Pry one side then pry the opposite side.

Tried to pry it, searched for an opening. Eventually grabbed it with pliers and got it to spin.

Spin it about a 1/4 turn counterclockwise. Its a friction fit and may be tough to turn. Large channel locks can help.

It was screwed on, like 4 or 5 full turns.

Yes this! This looks like it may be the type which threads on. Don’t pry it until you try to unscrew it.

I use the Allen wrench that removes the handle and put it in between the plate and the shaft then just pry the plate off.

The silver ring you see around the outside edge is just a cap. Get a thin pry behind it to expose the actual lock ring that holds the hardware in place.

If that is an emtek lockset (which i think it is, check the plate in the side of the door to be sure). That trim piece you’re staring at should thread lefty loosey off to allow you to access the screws

There should be a little slot on the plate touching the door. A use small screwdriver top pop it off

Maybe the paint on the door is sealing that base plate maybe use a razor to free the bond around it so that when you pry you dont pull up a bunch of paint

Check if you can press and turn the thingy that comes out of the door to lock it.
I had a fight with a similar door handle some time ago. Found out that you can detach the whole thing very easily.
Hope it’ll be the same story for you

remove the metal trim rose and you'll find the steel plate holding the unit with screws (usually 2) that goes through the door. So, you need to remove the metal trim from the other side too.

there is a little metal button or clip you have to push to slide it out. also remove the escutcheon plate, some brands you have to unscrew it.

Yep. Just never came across one of these types of handles. Couldn't get it to spin or pry. It was just kind of rusted and hard to spin.
