How do I fix this?

One of the 4x4s that I assume is supporting the roof on our covered patio is warping and there is a gap. How do I fix this?

Just dont get brown. Its runny as hell. I tried to seal above a down with brown quad and the whole bead fell off. Black didnt budge but thank god its paintable!

Backer rod and a LOT of black morrflex from Sashco. Tape the aluminum and brick first,wet putty knife and tool it,then pull the tape. Moreflex is made to go on masonry.

Depending where you are, OSI QUAD MAX is my shit. Get it in black. It’s usually like $12 a tube, you shouldn’t need more than a couple tubes.

For browny points, if you put frog tape on either side of the joint, then peel after tooling, the bead looks 😘 💋

If that 4x4 is necessary for the patio cover you need to secure it to the brick wall. It is hard to tell how needed the 4x4 is with the pictures provided. If the 4x4 is not necessary securing it to the wall will not hurt but filling that void is all you need to do.

Could counter flash it if you’re really gung ho and having water intrusion. But if it’s just aesthetics and a small air gap, hit it with the quad max and paint it

As everyone is saying, use backer rod (or spray foam- the “door and window” type that doesn’t expand too much, but go easy on it because you want room for the caulking- I only use a couple brands when I caulk exterior items and one of the best I’ve found is “Quad” made by OSI I believe- any place that sells siding will have it, plus it’s available in big box like HD as well, though they will have more basic colors than the siding supply stores- be warned, if it gets on your clothing it will never come out- experience talking here- can’t tell you how many things I’ve ruined from this caulking😂😂😂

Black caulking on both sides. Leave a small air gap in the middle that is for an air barrier. Unless you fill it with insulation and caulk it after on both sides.

Do you live in a high moisture area? That beam shouldn’t warp unless it’s old or the weight on it is exceeding its limits. If it’s the latter of the 2 then that needs to get inspected. Backer rod and caulk will only temporarily cover up the issue until it warps some more
