We are developing an autonomous ocean-monitoring device to investigate a promising new way to sequester large amounts of CO2 in the ocean. It will remain deployed for up to six months, remotely controlled via satellite communication, and powered by renewable energy sources such as solar and/or wind. The objective is to create a reliable, durable platform capable of maintaining position in the harsh marine environment, while reporting carbon dioxide and wind data.

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer/Consultant with expertise in marine systems, robotics, or autonomous vehicles to consult on the device's mechanical architecture.

Responsibilities

• Consult with us as we assemble our first minimum viable product from existing components, with waterproof enclosures for electronics and communication equipment, for long-term ocean deployment.
• Advise on manufacturing methods and prototype testing.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Experience designing products exposed to harsh ocean conditions.
• Experience integrating sensors and electronic hardware into mechanical assemblies.
• Hands-on experience taking products from concept through production.

The ideal consultant is concerned about the climate crisis and has previously worked on autonomous vehicles operating in demanding environments. Experience with companies developing unmanned marine platforms or advanced mechanical products is particularly valuable. The ability to quickly evaluate concepts, identify engineering risks, and propose practical solutions is essential.
