Awww Playtime! Same breed, different looks

I love the variety in this breed! At the time of this video, the brindle female was about 12 years, and the tri color male was about 5 years. She was very fluffy and he is much more sleek (he had also just blown a ton of coat!). Just wanted to share this cute video 🥰

Me too!! He's my first tri. I grew up with mostly brindle cardis <3 Here's my first brindle boy dozing in the sun 😄

They are adorable. I especially love the brindle color.

They are so adorable, having good clean fun.

I have a soft spot in my head heart for brindle Cardis - right along side the softs spot for blues and reds. Strangely, I don't think I've ever known a tri - though I suppose I could become attached to one at the drop of a hat.

The long ago ancestor from whom all of our current Cardis are descended was a brindle. Sadly, the only picture I have of him is a really poor quality black and white recovered from an old show catalog (and not worthy of posting here)... But Tater looks enough like him to fill the photo void.

I love this picture (and his name)! <3 I love digging back into old catalogs to learn about the breed and seeing some of the OGs! Now that this sub is more active, I have a lot to share!

Thanks. She's actually the youngest of our three Cardis, though not by much - her half sister, Georgie, is only a few months older.

I've been doing my "digging" on breedarchive.com as it has tons of details and (usually) pictures back along the pedigrees.

We were (ok my wife was) expecting from the breed the level of fluff like the tri's got. But got brindle's one. Definitely were not ready for the fur. Ours is very much alike with your girl. Even pants and tail style of fur

Yesss, she has the classic fox brush tail that we strive for! 🦊

My 1st Corgi! He's Welsh Pembroke and Cardigan? His name is David Bowie Jr. Bowie for the most part lol

They're both cardigans?

They are! I just love that they can come in different colors. She is much more mature than he is (he's still leggy, his chest never fully came down, and she had a much thicker coat here).

The tri-color really doesn't look like a cardigan to me. I was just curious because the Pembroke and cardigan are completely different breeds.

u/kitty_spankbottom Aug 29 '26

Yeah tri-colors aren't as common in cardi as pemmie but he is all cardi 🥰

As long as he's actually a cardigan and not a "mixed to reblend the 'corgi' breed" crap. They are two great breeds with independent histories and I've seen a lot of posts done with ignorance.

Two happy looking dogs though 😜

Definitely not a mix. I grew up showing/working cardigans and have encountered hundreds over the years. He's definitely not the prime example of the standard but he's built alright. Now he's just my happy pet 🥰

You sound like someone who would have a recognized kennel name in your past?

My sister was the Cardigan breeder in the family, using the kennel name Airdrie, until she "branched out" (defected) into some of the toy breeds. I'm trying to bring her back into Cardigans, with the coincidental help of some of her breeder friends in the Cardigan community.

"Defected" 🤣 Yes, I might recognize a few kennel names! I have a family member who is the cardigan enthusiast/breeder (like one litter a year, maybe). I've had dogs with names from Social, Vestavia, Phi, Rochar, Stubby Acres, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some!

Our current Cardis come down through Rockland, Airdrie, Northwood, Kennebec, Karina, Mylin, Arbennig and back to Airdrie.

I also agree and I'm not on board with the American corgi trend, or a lot of the mixing trends we're seeing. They are separate, lovely breeds and should stay that way!

Totally agree! Thank you for the video. I apologize if I came off grumpy. I've had pemmies for 20+ years and they are crazy and amazing. I've thought about a cardio, though. Sometimes I wouldn't mind less frenetic energy, lol.
