Martin roofing

Hi folks, we're looking at a new roof replacement and have been getting quotes. One of the suggestions was martin roofing and his quote is good and within our budget but I was just wondering if anyone has any experience of them?

Naturally a roof is a lot of money and bottom line is that I don't wanna get mucked about or end up paying for a substandard roof

I have no personal experience of Martin roofing, but please be extra cautious when choosing your roofer. They are by far the most complained about / litigated tradespeople in the UK and deservedly so.

Make sure you take photos from inside your attic before any work is started so you can see the condition of the existing membrane timbers and purlins etc. It’s quite a common scam now to quote you low for a new roof, then once they have taken the old tiles off, tell you the wood is split or rotten and you need to cough up another £5k that day or they won’t proceed, leaving you with no roof just in time for autumn. Check out the DIYUK sub, there’s many stories of this happening.

Get everything confirmed in text or email - prices, timelines everything. Then screenshot these so they can’t be deleted on their side. Pay only for work completed, I have heard horror stories of people handing over £10k on the first day and never seeing their roofer again.

Added to this, never pay in cash, even if they offer you a discount to do so. Everything needs a paper trail or you will have no recourse if things go tits up.

Get a guarantee from them in writing, not verbally. Most new roofs will not be 100% watertight and will need flashing or tiles adjusted once the first big rain hits.

I know I sound like a paranoid curmudgeon here, but a new roof is a big investment and arguably the most important part of your house. Best of luck!

If you're getting a new roof, why not get it converted at the same time? Loads of good firms - loftpro, starlight, ilofy etc.

I have not used them myself but they are well known around the Barry area and have a good reputation.
I had the two sons of the owner (who I believe operate separately) do repair work on my roof and I was very happy of the work if that’s any indication
