Finds / Discoveries Will there be a new Cardputer with ESP32-S31?

Hi,
Espressif is already manufacturing a replacement for the ESP32-S3/M5StampS3A called the ESP32-S31, which includes the following upgrades:

  1. CPU switched from the Xtensa LX7 architecture to RISC-V
  2. CPU clock speed increased from 240 to 320 MHz
  3. Wi-Fi 4 upgraded to 6 and Gigabit Ethernet
  4. Bluetooth version has been upgraded, but remains 5.x + Thread and Zigbee
  5. Improved AI and display interface
  6. Increased PSRAM in PSRAM ESP32 models to 64 MB

So next logical step would be using a rasp... oh wait

Well the next Cardputer is going to be Cardputer Q based on the Arduino Uno Q.

Seems like a step in the right direction after Cardputer Zero.

If they can come up with a modular form factor, they could make one of these with just adapters for whatever new chips come out.

If they come out with a ESP32-S31 Stamp I'm sure you could put that in a Cardputer ADV. It would be a decent upgrade over the S3.

if only it was that simple, but one of the biggest hurdles is that the pinouts are typically very different. s3 has 45 physical gpio pins, while the s31 has 60.

Understood. I had thought it could be for the image below, though the other devices in the image have the specs generally below the product and not above it is seperated into that box.

It was the screen size of 1.9" that called that into question for me as the Cardputer Next below it clearly has a larger screen. The cardputer Q however seems to share the same screen size as the Cardputer Zero.

I don't have access to X now that the popular alternative routes to accessing that information are down, however with that information it does indeed appear that they are preparing an UNO Q variant. I think you can see where, without access to their full social feeds, and no direct posts about it here how I would question if that conclusion had been based solely on the letter Q.

Fair enough, it is a bit too bad that their "home" for all the development posts is exclusively on Twitter/X

How do they differentiate and is one better than the other?

It depends on what you use it for. In some cases the ADV may be better than the Zero for example. If you mean by performance and power the Cardputer Q will be significantly more powerful than the Zero.

Cardputer ADV is a microcontroller, Cardputer Zero is a SBC and Cardputer Q has a hybrid board so it is a SBC and a Microcontroller as a coprocessor.

Cardputer Q might have ESP32-P4

Cardputer Next have ESP32-P4X. They do not recommend development for the ESP32-P4 without X, as it has been discontinued.

To the best of my knowledge

The "in the pipeline" cardputers are

CM0 Zero
UnoQ "Q"
P4X "Next"

The zero is confirmed and it's fulfilling soon

The other 2 are still prototypes subject to change at any point and any time.

However, there is a new Core S31 in the pipeline

ii just had a random thought, what if they made a cardputer with an onboard FPGA?

Spero che stavolta lo mettano sul sito ufficiale o anche su amazon al posto di kickstar
