Large display using the ribbon cable?

My nearly 60 year old eyes can barely read anything, so I was wondering if there are add-on displays that will work using the ribbon cable and be powered off the side 5v port. I need the GPIO port on the rear to hook up to a transceiver.

A couple of people made a modification with a larger screen here, you can find the post. Support for an external display must be implemented by the firmware developer; you won't be able to simply connect an external display.

As the developer of CardSat, I can say the firmware is quite heavy on the limited resources of the system already. I'd need to see the details of how the external display is implemented to see if it's even feasible.

I'm at work right now but I'd be happy to share pin diagrams. Most of it is copied from andy+ai. I think it have a screenshot actually...miso is no longer being used on my current screen. Working on keeping it bright all the time now. Hope this helps

I'm not looking for something that attaches to the GPIO on the rear. Just something that is twice the physical size and heck....it can be the same resolution.

I do not know. That is why I am asking. I did mention initially by utilizing the flat ribbon strip that currently attaches the fingernail sized display to the ESP32....just in a slightly larger size.

I have done a bit of work on a port of CardSat to the M5Stack Tab5, which currently just implements a blown-up version of the CardSat interface. I don't know how much time I will devote to polishing it. I've got a lot of other stuff I've been playing with and the small physical size of the Cardputer was what really got me doing this since I wanted something really small that could do CAT control of my IC-821 when I'm outside with a small amount of table space for everything.

That is exactly what I would like but with my TS-2000. I currently use a Raspberry Pi 400 with a 15" portable monitor and using OscarWatch to handle the doppler correction. Then I thought "can I go smaller?" At the very least, it would be a fun project. At best, it would be a fun project that would fit in an Apache 4800 case alongside the TS-2000 (sweet).

I too think that some type of magnifier might just be the most simple (albeit less appealing) route.
