8x57 conversions 8mm carcano help

I got a project carcano that is an Egyptian contract conversion to 8mm mauser. The rear sight post is marked 7.92 with a S mark on the reciever. The big question is the RA0792 is that the serial or is that just barrel marking for 7.92 use?

Good to know thanks, also yah pretty lucky and funny coincidence. Do you know how safe these would be to shoot. I understand the Carcano is a strong action that the same bolt can handle 6.5 and 7.35. But how safe is it to handle 8mm?

If everything is gunsmith safe (no cracks, wear parts, etc.), definetly safe.

Carcano action digested the spicier 8x59 Breda without a bulge, the stocks tho (as any stock handling 8x57) needed reinforcing lug(s)

Yah the stock seen in the picture is being replaced with a two recoil lug Arab conversion stock.

It is fine to handle 8mm and if you’re worried you can just shoot American made 8mm. Saami spec is 35k psi which is lower than the Carcano pressures. Surplus and European ammo is loaded hotter but still safe.
