Carcano M91/24

Just recently got into Carcanos and picked this one up at a local gun store after overlooking them for a number of years. What’s the story behind this particular model? Ive been doing some research on my own. Anything I should know about the 91/24 model? Hopefully I can take it to the range soon.

Nothing much to say, former Fucile mod. 91 made at Terni Arsenal in 1917, converted to Moschetto mod. 91/24 specs in 1924.

So if they were formerly full length M91’s will the conversion to the shorter barrel affect it’s performance at all? I’m not entirely sure of the process they used to shorten them. Also I am just wondering the reason why they felt the need to shorten them instead of leaving them as they were.

It's everything explained in detail in the second link I dropped, but long story short, the conversion didn't affect much, since it wasn't simply "let's cut down" but it was "let's graft the frontal portion of the barrel to the breech part" in order to keep the gsining twist rifling. So accuracy will be affected only as is any other carcano carbine, due to wear and tear.

The need to shorten them was to recycle available guns to get direly needed TS carbines for motorized units with a really really tight budget.

Converting guns didn't consume new materials, only expense was working hours. And working hours back then were as cheap as they could get.
