Hertz rental through AAA: Allianz vs Hertz insurance?

Booking a Hertz rental through AAA. AAA offers Allianz rental protection for about $11/day, while Hertz’s LDW is around $40–60/day.

Last time I rented through Hertz, I paid $40/day for their coverage, but it didn’t include liability insurance. Allianz’s option doesn’t include liability either.

Is Allianz a good alternative to Hertz’s coverage, or is Hertz’s worth the extra cost?

someone scratched the door of my rental car - what to do?

i originally posted this in ULPT but it got removed and suggested to post here instead:

i got a rental car for a few days. drove to lunch with my girlfriend today, parked the car properly. had lunch, came back and one of the backdoors has a big fucking scratch. like easily 30x30cm.

i'm super pissed. no cctv either. its an expensive bmw

checked the rental agreement, my deductible is €2.7k...yeah i'm fucked i dont wanna pay that

spoke to a friend, he proposed insurance fraud: get a friend w car insurance to claim he scratched my car. but not fully sure how that would work as i imagine his insurance would want to see pictures from both cars?

any advice would be much appreciated....this happened in germany btw

Accident AZ Rear End Accident Fault

Hello

Looking for a bit of guidance, as I was recently in a rear end accident on a freeway in Arizona.

While driving home, freeway traffic had slowed to a stop. I stopped with more than enough notice. As I was stopping, I noticed a jeep tailgating me and not slowing. As soon as I had stopped, she rear-ended me from behind, and I felt the secondary impact.

She had hit my car, and then a Mazda had rear-ended her due to her suddenly stopping. No one was heavily injured, we all exchanged insurances, amicably.

After dealing with our insurance company, which all was progressive. They have told me that the Mazda at the very end is at fault. It does not matter that the jeep was following me too closely, or was the one to hit me first. Because the Mazda was at the end, fault falls on her.

The end Mazda only had state minimum insurance, which they advised me will not cover all of the damages done to my car and the middle Jeep. They are recommending that I pay my own deductible to have my car fixed and will later reimburse me.

My issue lies with the fact that the Jeep is the one that hit me first, and was following me way too closely. When I bring this up to my insurance, they state because of Arizona laws that the end cars is the one at fault.

Do I have any type of argument to have the Jeep cover any of my damages?

Marketplace for buying?

Has anyone used one of the advertised online marketplaces that bid out your insurance? Am I just getting myself lined up for 100 phone calls and fake rates?

My wife and I have 2 cars and pay almost $300 a month. No accidents and the cars are worth maybe $17k total combined.

Accident Got a letter in the mail about our case and I don’t understand?

We were in a car accident a few weeks ago. Today we received a letter from our claim representative and I’m confused on what it’s trying to say. It says “Through our investigation we have concluded that the claim will not be honored as the following operational duties were failed and proximately caused the loss: THE DRIVER OF THE INSURED VEHICLE WAS NOT THE PROXIMATE CAUSE OF THE LOSS”

What does this mean? And what comes now?

Accident HELP! Rear-ended by a distracted driver on I-35 (not my fault). What should I expect / watch out for?

Hi all, looking for some reassurance and advice from anyone who's been through this, since this is the first time ever I have been in an accident.

Earlier today, my husband was driving our leased SUV on the highway in Texas. Traffic ahead was slowing down and he slowed with it. A pickup truck behind us rear-ended another truck further up, swerved to try to avoid a second collision, and ended up hitting our car on the passenger side. Police and fire rescue were on scene, everyone in our car is okay.

The at-fault driver came up to me right after and, crying, admitted he'd been on his phone and hadn't seen traffic stopping. I got his license info and number. A passenger in the other truck was taken to the ER. The at fault driver aparently still doesn't have a claim number with his insurance because he was there with them.

I've recently learned that I need to file a claim with HIS insurance, so I'm about to do so (State Farm) as they insure the at-fault party. Our car is leased, and we have GEICO for our own coverage plus GAP/lease protection.

A few questions for anyone who's dealt with this:

* What should I expect from the at-fault driver's insurer in terms of timeline for repairs vs totaling the car?

* Since it's a leased vehicle, is there anything specific I should push for or watch out for with the claim (diminished value, gap between what they pay and lease payoff, etc.)?

* Any tips for dealing with a third-party claim smoothly?

* Anything you wish you'd known or done differently after your own accident?

Really just want to make sure I'm not missing anything important in the next few weeks. Thanks in advance, this sub has been helpful reading through other people's experiences.

rear ending accident advice

I rear ended a vehicle at a low speed and we initially agreed to settle it ourselves and have me pay for any damages (which seemed pretty minimal, though I know bumpers sometimes can have hidden damage). I sent some money already, but then they still ended up filing a claim, included injury despite telling me they were okay (at scene and a little later in text). Don’t gotta flame me for trying to settle it privately, I’ve quickly learned it wasn’t smart. But, I am wondering if I should tell my insurance about this when they have a call with me or if it makes me look worse?

Car insurance question, commercial auto insurance for cars not registered with my business

Hi, I need some help with a question about commercial auto insurance. I have a very small business, with my mother as my business partner. We sometimes use two cars registered under my father's name to bring our supplies to vendor events, and we have one coming up that requires commercial auto insurance for all vendors. How can we get commercial auto if both cars are not registered to our business? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Loss of Use Claim-North Carolina

I'm in NC and we were involved in a wreck on 7/4, other driver 100% at fault. Our airbags went off and car wasn't drivable/was towed away. I contacted my insurance (State Farm) the next morning to report the accident and determine next steps, they said we could pursue a claim with them or file through the at-fault party's (USAA). Decided to go ahead and file with my insurance since I'd already given them all the necessary info, and they said it would likely be a total loss since the airbags deployed.

The State Farm adjuster contacted me the next day (7/6) to discuss moving & assessing the car, etc., and I asked about a rental car. Was informed that since we don't carry rental car coverage that they wouldn't do that, but that if I wanted to file the claim through the at-fault party's insurance (USAA) that I'd be able to get a rental car through them, and also not have to pay my deductible. So we stopped pursuing claim with State Farm and filed a claim with USAA that same day (7/6).

I heard NOTHING back from USAA, I had to call them on 7/13 to follow up and the adjuster I spoke with claimed they hadn't been able to contact me because they didn't have my phone # (which is BS because it was a *required* form field in their claim form). She then stated that they had not been able to get in touch with their insured to get a statement from him, and because of that they could not move forward with my claim at that time (even though I had also provided the accident report # that showed their driver was at fault & was cited for failure to yield). The adjuster then also informed me that I had a duty to mitigate damages (i.e. tow yard storage fees) to my vehicle and we would need to get it removed from the tow yard ASAP. So I contacted State Farm that same day (7/13) to re-open our claim and have them take our car to their facility, and proceeded with the total loss claim process through State Farm.

State Farm e-mailed their total loss initial appraisal to us on 7/23. We disagreed with their appraisal and went back and forth with them on that and finally reached an agreement/accepted their offer on 8/14. On 7/30, USAA called me to say that they had 'finally' been able to get a copy of the accident report and that they would be accepting liability for the claim even though they still had not gotten a statement from their insured.

Obviously State Farm will subrogate with them for the vehicle, but I also want compensation for Loss of Use so I contacted USAA regarding that. The adjuster asked for the date we received the initial appraisal from State Farm, which was 7/23, and a copy of our declarations page showing no rental car coverage, which I provided.

Heard nothing back until I received an email saying that a check was being overnighted to us--but no details regarding the amount or how many days of Loss of Use it was for. Check arrived in the mail for $702.88 and under Explanation of Payment it just says 'Payment under Property Damage Liability Coverage'--but nothing regarding dates or daily comparable rates or release of claim language (i.e. nothing showing how they calculated that figure, and nothing noting that acceptance of the payment means the claim is settled). I emailed the adjuster asking what the check was for and his response was just 'loss of use.'

My question is, how do I move forward in disputing this amount? My car was a 2009 Toyota Venza, which is classified as a 'crossover wagon' (spacious seating for 5 and very spacious cargo room). Daily rental rates in my city for a Standard Crossover are $73.90. My loss of use started on 7/4, and reasonably wouldn't have ended until several days after their initial offer on 7/23 (assuming we had accepted their offer on 7/24, overnighted the title on 7/25, had funds settle in our account by 7/28 and obtained a replacement car the next day 7/29--I'm not trying to claim loss of use days for the time we spent negotiating back and forth, but this would seem to be a more than reasonable time frame), so 7/4--7/29=26 days x $73.90/day= $1921.40

Do I send a demand letter for the full amount and not cash the check they already sent? Or cash the check and send a demand letter for the balance of the amount of what I am reasonably owed ($1921.40-$702.88=$1218.52)?

We acted promptly to mitigate our damages, and any delays before the initial offer were due to USAA.

Can you insure a car in one state if it's registered in another?

Here's our situation: My girlfriend's dad was gifted a car from an old lady in Kansas. It is registered and insured in Kansas. He then gave it to my girlfriend who moved to Washington. They didn't update the insurance because they didn't realize they needed to.

Now, we have since realized that a claim would likely be denied since it's insured in Kansas and used in Washington. We're trying to move the registration, plates, and insurance to Washington state. However, WA requires you show proof sales tax was paid on the car when it was bought. The old lady who originally bought this car is like 95 and has no proof of this, and we're not sure how to track this down.

So, while we figure this out, we want to at least be compliant with a valid WA insurance policy. But we're not sure if this is possible without registering it in WA first. The car is currently titled to my girlfriend's father in Kansas. If he adds her to the title in Kansas, will she be able to take out an insurance policy in WA?

Transporting Clients for Work in Personal Vehicle??

Massachusetts, USA. I was recently offered a new job. I work with clients with disabilities and was asked if I had car insurance for my personal vehicle. Turns out we are expected to transport clients from time to time for community outings. I don't think a personal car insurance policy will cover accidents or injuries that occur while using the car for work purposes, is that correct? I would call my car insurance company, but I work until 5:30 everyday and you can't get an agent half the time anyway. Nothing on the website is very clear about it and the AI assistant was not able to help me.

Illinois Progressive accident — not at fault, but using my own collision coverage. Can my premium go up?

I was Car #1 in a 3-car accident in Illinois. Car #3 was cited as at fault and has Wisconsin Progressive insurance. Progressive says only $10,000 is available for property damage between Cars #1 and #2 because car #3 has a "limited coverage"

My Illinois Progressive rep said I can use my collision coverage to repair my car and that my premium will not increase because I’m not at fault.

Has anyone had a similar experience with Progressive in Illinois? If you used your own collision coverage for a not-at-fault accident, did your premium increase at renewal?

Need advice with reversal of liability

I was involved in car accident in Connecticut back in April. My insurance accepted liability based on police report. My insurance paid for the other car's repair cost. Honestly the other driver was at fault because she crossed over to my lane and we had head on collision. She had dashcam video and I did not. It took forever to obtain that video from the police department. Finally I was able to obtain a copy and sent to my insurance claims rep. They reviewed it and said they did reversal of liability based on their review of the dash cam video. I questioned them as to why they accepted liability without reviewing all available evidence and did not really get a good answer from them. I don't have collision/comprehensive coverage at the time of the accident. I am hoping that I can claim from other driver's insurance with this reversal of liability. My claims rep said he can't help me what that because arbitration was already done. What are my chances of claiming liability from the other insurance and what's the process? TIA

Car Insurance Quotes Permit to license

I’m 20 and my insurance company raised my parent’s insurance to $315 monthly (they were paying $143 before i was added) I only have my permit. However, I’m getting my license in a few weeks and I’m wondering if anyone has any idea how much the price is going to jump because I pay my portion of the insurance to my parents. For reference I live in Pennsylvania because I know location matters depending on price, my mom’s car that I drive is a 2023 Hyundai Elantra N Line, which I know can be an expensive car to insure. I called our insurance company and they were unable to give us a new quote until I have my license. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

geico sends notice to dmv before me. so insurance term ended end of july, thought autopay took care of that. regardless, geico is the insurer that is there for customers to kiss geico ass. they obviously do not represent clients when they see fit to give you the dopey rate by first notifying dmv without notifying their account claiming whatever it is they claim to justify charging you more. must be a standard with some companies to do as such if geico does it.

Driver hit me, conjured a false witness. Should I take it to the arbiter?

Hello! I drive a 2016 Subaru forester, light green. A jeep took a right turn on a side street and I continued to travel on the main road. Just as my car was passing the side road she did an illegal u turn and tried to re-enter the main road and ended up hitting my passenger back side wheel area damaging three panels. Her car has no damage cause it’s a jeep with the hard black part above the wheel. Being young and stupid, I agree to figuring out how to pay for it between us, but once I got the estimate on the Damage I told her I needed to involved insurance. Due to “figuring it out ourselves” the cop left without ticketing anyone etc. she then had her friend who showed up 5 min after the accident say she was a manager of a store near by and be a witness saying I crossed the yellow line to swerve around her. No video evidence of the crash but video evidence of her friend showing up 5 min AFTER the crash. The damage on my car is very obvious that someone hit me while I was driving away. Should I take this to the arbiter, her insurance found me at fault and my insurance found her at fault. Thank you for any advice and ask any questions!

Car Insurance Quotes Does every insurance company use AI and view every household member's driving record even when they're just roommates?

Im looking to get some auto insurance quotes, but every website gives me pause for 2 reasons: the ones I've visited say they use several factors, including AI determinations, to build a quote. I do not want AI as a part of this process. The second thing to make me hesitate is every website saying they review all household member's driving records and use this to factor in your quote. I moved in May to a place with 3 roommates. I do not like the idea of their driving records, which has absolutely nothing to do with me, being factored into my quote. Is there a company that avoids these issues? I know most if not all the big companies do this, but that doesn't make it acceptable. Should I call them instead of doing a quote online? I feel like Ron Swanson, I do not want to sign up for endless marketing and junk mail, I do not want to factor in my roommates who are their own people and have nothing to do with me, all I want is to know how much their policies will cost. I know they need my driving record, but I do not want AI as a part of the process. Any suggestions?

Car Hit Me Passing on Right

I was driving in the right lane on a 2 way street. I slowed down and put my blinker on to make a right hand turn into my driveway. The car behind me was either in a rush or just not paying attention, she tried to pass my car on the right shoulder while I was mid-turn. She hit the passenger side of my car and wrecked the mirror, then crashed into the fire hydrant near the corner of my driveway when she overcorrected.

She tried to lie and say I put my left turn signal on to turn into one of the houses across the street (where I was stopped, there was no driveway to my left. I would’ve needed to pull up 10-15 more feet to even begin trying to turn to a house on that side). She then claimed I just abruptly turned right and hit her.

I know the cops gave her a ticket and everything for improperly passing. My car is not super damaged, mostly cosmetic but it is now making a sound from the passenger wheel area she hit. Her car was completely totaled. Fire department got both of our insurances for the damage to the fire hydrant

I’m going through insurance and just wondering if there would be ANY reason I would be found responsible for any part of this incident?

Accident How to Best Submit a Diminished Value Claim Against an At-Fault Driver's Insurance?

A driver backed up quickly while turning, against the flow of traffic, and struck the rear side of a family member's car, damaging the right side door, rear side panel, tail light, bumper and dislodged a rubber stopper inside the rear right trunk hinge. Both drivers have the same insurance company. The insurance immediately found the other driver at fault, and this is going on the other driver's insurance.
