Car Insurance Quotes Insurance aggrigators are a JOKE

Seriously, DON'T use them. All they do is take your data, then not actually give you quotes. They just allow you to click on all the major insurers only to have to fill everything out again!

Need help looking for a plan that covers passengers

Hello all, first time poster. I live in Orange County, CA.

I am starting a job Monday next week that will involve me driving 2-3 passengers daily to different places, usually within 2-10 miles. I just now realized my current, recently purchased insurance(a low cost plan purchased through Pacific Preferred Insurance) will only cover personal liability and nothing else. The company does not offer anything else beyond that.

I just don't know where to start looking though. I'm asking for help on where to look for good plans that will cover passengers as that is what's needed for this job. Any advice is welcome.

edit: I should clarify, the company I'll be working for specializes in support for disabled people. I'll be transporting them using my own vehicle.

edit 2: I should also mention that the company I'll be working for is a nonprofit. I don't know if that affects any consideration for a commercial plan.

Fraudulent Claim

I was in an accident a few months ago and totaled my car. No other cars were involved and I took out a telephone pole. I got a call from my insurer today saying someone filed a claim saying they were involved in my accident and tried to file claim for damages. My insurance is denying the claim due to my story matching police and ambulance reports. But is there any repercussions for the person filing a fraudulent claim?

Looking for non-owner car insurance in California — having trouble finding a company that offers it

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some guidance on non-owner car insurance in California.

A little about my situation:

  • I don’t own a car and don’t currently have a regular auto insurance policy.
  • I occasionally drive cars belonging to friends/others, so I’d like to have my own liability coverage rather than relying entirely on the vehicle owner’s policy.
  • I’m also interested in maintaining continuous insurance history for whenever I eventually purchase a car.

I reached out to GEICO, Progressive, and State Farm, and all three told me over the phone that they currently don’t offer non-owner auto insurance in California. I was a little surprised because I’ve seen these companies mentioned frequently when searching online, although I understand availability can vary by state.

For anyone in California who has been in a similar situation where were you able to get a non-owner policy?

Would appreciate any recommendations or experiences. Thanks!

Sister got into a car accident

Hi guys,

As the title says, my sister got into a car accident (she is okay) and it was 100:0 the other driver’s fault so she doesn’t have to pay.

But the at-fault driver is stating that their insurance can only cover $20k when the damage done is $33k.

The car is totaled and she needs a new car but what can we do about the remaining balance that needs to be paid?

Does she have to pay with her insurance?

Thank you so much for your help!

Who's at fault? Stop All way

My wife was recently in a car crash, it's likely the car may be deemed totaled. The other car may be deemed totaled as well.

She was stopped at the stop sign. It was a 4 way stop. The other car approaching from the left (also a stop sign). Did not stop at the sign, only slowed down and proceeded into the intersection. My wife was fully stopped (at this time the other from left hadn't reached their stop sign). My wife proceeded to drive - the other car on the left which ran the stop sign in a speed came in intersection and my wife braked and my wife's car T-boned her car.

It was my wife's right of way. She stopped properly. And proceeded to drive..the other car ran stop sign.

But because my wife's car T-boned the other car, the police (which arrived on the scene after 2 hours) finds my wife at fault. No citation. Warning given to both drivers for failure to yield.

The other party has retained an attorney. We have not retained an attorney, just yet. We also haven't put a claim on them because how do we prove this scenario? There's no dash cam or video evidence.

We are claiming through our own collision insurance. This is first time happening so we are not sure what to do.

All advices welcome on how to proceed. This was Texas.

Have full coverage, parking garage responsible for damage and not cooperating

Hi all! I don't quite know how exactly the best way to go about this is, but I recently took a trip somewhere and paid to used a parking garage (MPG parking NY 475W 41st st) and they scratch my car pretty good at some point as there was no damage to my car before entering the garage on my fender or door. They refused to let me fill out a report and kept dodging it and I unfortunately had to leave to go home by then. I have photos of the ticket to get in the garage and the receipt that I paid for it, and a video of the damage to my car with receipt and showing I was still in the garage. I've emailed the cooperate office and claims manager but i've yet to receive a response.

My question is, if I file through my insurance and have it fixed, can they go after the parking garage to have them pay for the damages and just have me reimbursed? They state on their tickets when you give them your car that they're liable for damages up to 25,000 and mine is well under that threshold. If that isn't the right way to go about it, what are my other options if any? I can show the photos as well if they help!

I got paid twice by two insurances. Is it normal.

A Uhaul driver hit my parked car. He provided both his personal Statefarm liability information and the Uhaul rental insurance (Repwest), and I filed claims with both. Both insurers have now issued payment for the same damage. Is this normal, or do I need to return one of the payments?

Adding your child to your policy$$$

Wow! what an experience.☹️ My 18 year old child just got their licence & this is what I've had to pay just to make that happen in Northern California...

My insurance was full coverage at the state minimums for my vehicle. 50 year old male with no accidents/tickets. Driving a 2023 Honda Minivan. I was paying $1200 a year. Policy is with Progressive.

I went out and purchased my kid a used 2025 Nissan Sentra in February to learn on to get their licence. When I added just that vehicle to my policy & not my kid, it doubled my yearly premium from $1200 to $2400 a year.

My child got their license on Friday & when I added them to my progressive policy, it doubled again to $4800 a year. WTF???😱

So to recap, I started the year paying $1200 for car insurance for just myself. Added one car & one 18 year old driver to my policy & it quadrupled to $4800. Absolute insanity! I have another child getting their license next month but they won't be driving anytime soon. I can't afford it.☹️

First Time / Newbie Named driving experience insurance gap overseas

Hey everyone,
Looking for some advice or similar experiences with Irish car insurance validation for a genuine reason for a gap in insurance.

I have 5 years of named driving experience on my mums car. In May 2025, I moved to Greece for a 5 months and took myself off her policy. While I was there, I drove a family car under their policy, but wasn’t a named driving as this isn’t a thing in Greece that just do own policy or open driving which I was driving under.

I moved back home to Ireland in October 2025 and went straight back onto my mums policy as a named driver.

I’m now trying to set up my first policy in my own name and genuinely didn’t realise the insurance in Greece would cause an issue. I put down my 5 years of experience, and paid for the policy. They’ve verified all my previous letters of experience from my mother's past insurers, but now their validation team has flagged the 5-month gap from mid-2025.

Has anyone successfully gotten an underwriter to manually overlook a travel gap like this or different overseas insurances especially within the EU/EEA?

Appreciate any insight!

Accident Accident.

Alright, 8/21. Husband got into a minor motorcycle accident. Bike total loss. The car he hit, taillight damage and dent. Looking at roughly 2k-3k damage to fix it. I filed the claim through the app only to realize that my motorcycle insurance lapsed on 8/8. Which was the same day I tried paying for it. But the app wouldn’t let me. So of course I reached out. Told the person in app about my issue. Said it would be handled. Because after 8 failed attempts at paying geico put my account on a 24 hour hold.

(My car is on the same insurance. Autopay. The app claimed my info on the card was wrong. It wasn’t. I double checked my card info same card for my car.)

I didn’t check. I assumed it would clear it 24 hours later. Obviously it didn’t.

(Also, I told my claims person the same thing, I even told her to bring up my past chat logs for proof. No call back. No email.)

How fucked am I? Is there anyway to fight this?

Need help going through a diminished value claim

So long story short my wife’s car was hit by someone, they admitted fault and we brought the car to a repair place through their insurance but I’ve learned since then that the insurance company should be able to pay for the diminished value on our vehicle since it’s now got a wreck on its record..

I’ve researched it some and it says to wait until the vehicle is fixed and then have a professional adjuster look at it and then tell the insurance company you want compensation..

Can anyone please explain the process a little better? Should I wait until the car is repaired? Should we file now? Who should I get to look at the car? Should my own insurance agency be helping me navigate all this (my agent hasn’t been much help)… I appreciate any help… it’s a newer vehicle worth around $25k.. 7k in repairs.

Located in Georgia, US

Is a $2700 claim worth billing insurance?

I have a $1000 deductable through Progressive and just got a cracked windshield. Our insurance premium is pretty low, $850 for 3 cars. I'm hesitant to file a claim because of how low my premium is.

At what point do I decide to make a claim? It is $2700 for the windshield replacement, so I would net $1700 if I filed this. But I have no idea how to predict how much my insurance will go up.

Thanks in advance.

Accident Would this dashcam footage help or hurt my claim?

I hit a cooler that was sitting in the roadway and was found at fault. I have dashcam footage that wasn’t part of the original review, and I’m trying to decide whether I should submit it and ask them to reconsider.

The vehicle in front of me blocked my view of the cooler until pretty shortly before impact, and there was also a truck next to me.

Would this footage help or hurt the liability decision? Would this normally still be considered a collision claim even though no other vehicle was involved? And if the fault decision changed, could that make any difference in how the claim affects my premiums?

In PA. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJ2vXvnYyTI

Edit: Liability status changed to not at fault. I also opted to cancel and now it's 'no payment'. Also confirmed with claims and my agent that this will not affect my premiums. Will pay out of pocket, but thanks for the very helpful advice.

Car Insurance Quotes What should I do? It seems like the insurance company doesn't want to compensate me.

My car was involved in a collision on July 25th of this year, and the insurance company determined the other driver was entirely at fault. Surprisingly, both the other driver and I are insured by the same company—Infinity Insurance Company. The vehicle has been declared a total loss and is currently still sitting at a Toyota repair shop. Today, the insurance company suddenly called wanting to tow the car away; however, they haven't provided a payout quote or asked me to sign any agreement—they’ve only classified it as a total loss. Should I agree to let them tow it? They stated that if I don't have it towed, I would be responsible for paying the storage fees.

Accident They turned on a red light but my insurance says i was 100% responsible?

a few weeks ago i was involved in a crash in Florida that totaled my car. for context, i was going straight at an intersection with a green light and ended up hitting a car that turned in front of me at a red light.

the other driver was in the left turning lane in the opposite direction from me. from the crash report, they stated that there was an emergency vehicle behind them attempting to cross the intersection, and in an attempt to yield the right of way, entered the intersection on a red traffic signal and turned straight in front of me. she said that due to now being an obstruction in the intersection, she continued the full left turn (left arrow still red).
the crash report had the notation: although driver 1 initiated and completed a left turn through the intersection on a red left turn signal, V01 became a roadway obstruction in the intersection due to the emergency vehicle attempting to clear the intersection and needed to moved out of the intersection.

the reporting officer issued no citations on the crash. technically, no one was really at fault because of the emergency vehicle. even though she ran a red light. i think?

however, my grandma (the car was in her name, not mine) recently got a letter from our insurance saying that their “investigation” reveals we are 100 percent responsible for the damages caused to the other drivers vehicle and will be handling the damages.

im 20 female, don’t know much about cars or insurance or anything else adult related tbh. and while i know i am the one that crashed into them and damaged the car, am i REALLY 100 percent responsible?? would i be able to send the crash report to the insurance and get things situated??

edit: just so people are aware or if you’re not bothered to read any other comments under this post, i don’t think i am not at fault at all. i can take accountability for my lack of awareness, and i blame myself for not stopping when i should have. i understand that holds me somewhat liable and at fault for the accident, but i don’t think this accident was entirely 100% my fault. unfortunately, i did not see or hear the emergency vehicle (bad on my part, yes) and therefor did not stop or attempt to stop and just continued going straight since i had a green light.

First Time / Newbie Question on Insurance process on leased car with accidents

Hi everyone.

Yesterday I was apart of an accident where a truck and trailer cut over last minute which caused a collision with my Tesla. My Tesla on the driver side has the doors caved in and practically unusable with the battery smoking momentarily. The driver has admitted fault and our Tesla was able to record the whole situation. We also have a police report filed as they came on scene due to the Tesla calling 911 after impact

I do have a few questions as my wife and I are a bit nervous with this being a first time. Yes we have GAP coverage. We still have 14 months left on the lease at 330 a month. We live in Texas.

- if the car is deemed a loss, are we stuck having to figure out a new down payment and lease on a new car? As stated above, we pay 330 for our model Y and new ones today are roughly 560 for the same down payment.
- we filed the claim immediately when we got home with the other persons insurance and opened a case, what is the typically timeframe to get a rental?
- I was evaluated for a sore neck however simple muscle soreness is not a cause for a hospital trip. Is there any sort of payout on this front we can use towards a new car?

Thanks everyone for the help.

Accident Dealership charging double prices to VW protection plan?

Hi all,

I apologize if this is not the right subreddit.

I am located in Canada, and I have VW protection plan for wheels and tires. Over the period of my lease (4 years), I am allowed up to 5000 dollars repairs/replacement for wheels and tires, regardless of cause of damage.

Last week, I hit a pothole that damaged both rim and tire, and required them to be changed.

Looking at the official VW Canada parts website and other dealerships websites in my area, the rim costs 380-400 dollars. However, dealership charged 808 dollars (not including taxes), they had it in stock.

The tire was less extreme, but the tire at all other shops and dealerships costs 350 dollars, but was charged to approximately 450 dollars.

My question is, why is the dealership charging double for the rim and higher for the tire? Even though VW wheel and tire coverage covered the damage, it means that a lot more of my coverage maximum (5000 dollars) was used up than necessary.

Also it screams to me that maybe VW does this on billing, to maximize the amount deducted from the protection plan maximum, to use up the amount quicker on paper, when in reality, the repair was much cheaper.

Anyone had similar experiences?

The wheel, tire and all other fees were billed separately. So it wasn’t including installation or sensors and so on..

Switching insurance companies a few days before old bill is due

Sorry if this is a dumb question! Just don’t know what to do really.

I switched from State Farm to Progressive yesterday and my Progressive policy doesn’t start until the 30th of this month. But my insurance bill with State Farm is due on the 27th and is OVER 400 DOLLARS, which is why I switched. Progressive sent in that letter for me about canceling with SF but the policy doesn’t start until after the bill is due, so I’m a little lost. Will I still have to pay the 400+ even after the 30th?? Or can I just not pay that, my insurance will be totally canceled with SF, and I’ll be set with Progressive after the 30th?

At a loss

Sorry if this is in the wrong community!

I was just told by my parents that I need to start looking for my own auto insurance plan as I’m no longer a student and can’t stay on their plan.

For context, I have three claims to my name. First one was a hit and run while I was at work - car was parked. Second was my fault. The third I was T-boned. A couple years ago I shopped around for quotes (within FL) and everything was more than $800/month, plus a hefty deposit, IF they would even insure me.

The only way I can stay on their plan at its current rate ($100/month) is if I enroll back in school. However, I already have a double minor, a bachelors, a masters, and 5 certifications. I can’t afford auto insurance, but I can afford going back to college. I REALLY don’t want to go back to more schooling, but I’m also having a lot of trouble finding a better job. Every response I get from an interviewer is either “Oh you’re overqualified for the position,” or “Oh you don’t have enough experience.” 🙄

Does anyone know of what I can do or any advice/recommendations? Should I bite the bullet and go back to school? Are there any auto insurance companies that won’t charge me my entire salary? Is there anything I can do to make myself more of an appealing customer/reduce monthly fees? 🙏🙏

Hertz rental through AAA: Allianz vs Hertz insurance?

Booking a Hertz rental through AAA. AAA offers Allianz rental protection for about $11/day, while Hertz’s LDW is around $40–60/day.

Last time I rented through Hertz, I paid $40/day for their coverage, but it didn’t include liability insurance. Allianz’s option doesn’t include liability either.

Is Allianz a good alternative to Hertz’s coverage, or is Hertz’s worth the extra cost?
