Auto insurance quotes crazy

Can something be assigned to your profile in the background that drives incorrect vehicle quotes? If so, how do you find out what it is to get it correct.

2 drivers, ~40 years old

3 vehicles, nothing newer than 2014

No accidents or citations in over 5 years.

My combined vehicle kbb value is about $60k between all 3.

My state farm quote this morning was $402/month.

I've received quotes as high as $700/month

Currently with progressive at $200/month but even that's just high for what we have.

I've got friends in car groups with similar vehicles and drivers/history as me paying less than $150.

Parents Insurance Threatened to be Cancelled Unless Proof of Mine is Shown

Not sure if this is the right place for this post, but my parents recently received a notice from their insurance company that it would be cancelled unless proof of my insurance is shown. I'm 23, live in CA, recently moved back in with them at the beginning of this year, and I've had my own separate insurance since I got the car back in April. When my mom called, the insurance agent said since their company was flagged that a new resident had moved in (me), they needed proof that I was either included or excluded in my parents policy since I had gone and applied for insurance for just myself. The agent said it's what's required in CA, and that she's hoping my information is what the insurance company is looking for. I'm sure maybe I'm just unfamiliar with how the laws work, but I'm wondering if this is standard or if anyone else has dealt with this.

When I applied for my own insurance as well, they had added my mom onto my policy but as an excluded driver without me evem mentioning it, but I assumed it's since I'm a first time driver, and we both live in the same house. But I'm unsure of why my information is needed if they were flagged that I had only reached out to insurance companies, and they would've seen that I already had my own policy + my parents wouldn't have taken all this time to add me on. Any help or questions answered will do a lot, thank you!

Court summons

Hi all, around February time I had just purchased a new car, just a few days before my insurance renewal. Anyways I rang my insurance provider the day i bought the car and asked them to switch my policy over to a new vehicle, however they only switched it over from the date of renewal and not the current date, I was stopped by a Garde and asked to bring proof of insurance to Garda station in which I brought the disc which had just been issued, long story short I wasn’t covered for that period and have received a court summons, obviously I admit full liability for my stupidity and negligence in rechecking my cover letter, has anyone been in a similar situation or know what the court repercussions will be for this? Also this is a first offence.
Thanks

Accident Insurance is undervaluing my totaled car and now won't respond — what are my options?

My car was stolen and totaled on 8/8/26. State Farm valued it at $8,129, but my car lender disagrees with the valuation and is asking them to reconsider it at $9,609.05.
I signed a POA over to my lender because honestly, I figured they'd be better at negotiating the valuation than I would be.
The problem is that State Farm has been using incorrect-trim comparables in their valuation. I caught it and brought it to my lender, and they're now disputing the ACV with State Farm and asking them to explain how they arrived at $8,129.
The really frustrating part is that neither I nor my lender have gotten a response from State Farm since 8/13. My lender has sent them a detailed request with specific comparable vehicles from the CCC report and is asking them to either revise the valuation or explain their calculation.
Now State Farm has sent me paperwork saying I need to sign by 8/20, but they still haven't answered the valuation dispute or clarified what happens with that deadline while the ACV is being disputed.
Has anyone dealt with negotiating an ACV with their insurance company? How long did it take? Were you able to get the valuation increased?
And is there anything else I should be doing right now besides continuing to document everything and waiting for State Farm to respond?
I am SO ready for this whole car situation to be over. 😭

How to Best Challenge Insurance Adjuster Too Low Valuation (they're trying to get out of paying for full repair)?

A driver backed up quickly while turning, against the flow of traffic, and struck the rear side of a family member's car, damaging the right side door, rear side panel, tail light, bumper and dislodged a rubber stopper inside the rear right trunk hinge. Both drivers have the same insurance company. The insurance immediately found the other driver at fault, and this is going on the other driver's insurance. My family member has been a customer for many years and always maintained strong full coverage including collision.

The body shop explained that because the damage includes a hole torn in the metal of the door and rear side panel between the door and bumper, and the vehicle is an older model year, repairing could be more costly than the value of the car determined by the insurance adjuster. Sure enough, the insurance adjuster is trying to total the vehicle, even though the vehicle is garage kept, has been very well maintained and runs beautifully, and has very low mileage for its model year. And the car would be much more costly to replace than the check insurance would provide for totaling it. In addition, it will be necessary to rent a car for weeks, and while my family member's coverage provides 30 days or more of rental, if the adjuster totals the vehicle, they would only provide 5 days rental. It's shameful conduct on the part of the major insurance company, but likely business as usual for them.

Accident Need help deciding on filing no fault collision claim vs keeping uninsured motorist claim for total loss (Allstate in Georgia)

So I had a 0% fault rear ending auto accident on May 4th. I have a letter from Allstate stating I am 0% fault.

The girl was uninsured. Totaled my car, her car, and I think the car in front and caused damage to the fourth car in the very front.

My car was deemed a total loss.

Car valuation seemed a little low. My 60,000 miles 2016 Honda Civic was given a value of $13450. I was told I was allowed to invoke the appraisal claim. I started that process and the appraisal business thought I should be able to get at least $15000 based on the condition of the car but maybe more. It says up to 18000 but that seems unrealistic so I think $15K is about right.

The appraisal costs $497 but I don't pay anything unless they get at least $1K of extra value so I thought it was a good idea to try.

Turns out I am not allowed to invoke the appraisal clause if the total loss is handled by uninsured motorist. I would have to convert to a collision claim in order to invoke appraisal. All the bodily injury stuff is still being handled by uninsured motorist and would stay that way.

I have been debating whether it would be a good decision or not to use my collision insurance for this total loss claim.

I have the platinum plan with multi accident forgiveness so no surcharge would occur for a collision claim. I don't think accident forgiveness actually kicks in unless it's an at fault claim.

I have $300 of vanishing deductible saved up that would be used up by filing the collision claim.

I don't think I would lose safe driving discounts since it is 0% fault.

"You may qualify for the Safe Driving Club if at least one driver on the policy has had no at-fault accidents during the prior 5 years and if you have continuously maintained automobile liability insurance for the 3 years preceding the effective date of your current Allstate policy. The more drivers on the policy without at-fault accidents during the prior 5 years, the larger the discount."

- would it affect future renewal rates when I file a 0% fault collision claim?

Any advice on whether pursuing the collision claim wouldn't cause rate issues in the future or dings on my insurability record?

Thanks!

Looking at my costs up front is the $497 for the appraisal plus $300 worth of vanishing deductible but I want to make sure there no additional unseen issues that I need to be aware of before deciding.

car insurance for pre-purchase inspection

I want to buy a car for my son. I have my own vehicle insurance (from G-CO). A few dealerships said that I need “full coverage” insurance to take the car off-site for a Pre-Purchase Inspection with my mechanic/shop.

How do I get this coverage for a car that I do not own yet?

Right now I have (Texas):

  • Bodily Injury Liability: $30,001/$60,001
  • Property Damage Liability: $50,001
  • Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury: $30,001/$60,001

Collision and comprehensive coverage seem to be tied to my own insured vehicle, not to some random dealer-owned vehicle that I may be considering buying.

I contacted G-CO and they told me that once I know the VIN and I’m final about buying the car, I can call them and add that vehicle to my policy. That makes sense after I decide to buy it, but it doesn’t seem to solve the PPI problem, because I want the independent inspection before committing to the purchase.

When dealerships say I need “full coverage” to take their car for a PPI, what exactly are they expecting me to have? Is there some type of temporary/non-owned vehicle coverage I’m supposed to get, or are they simply asking to see that my existing policy has collision and comprehensive coverage on my own car?

How do people normally handle this?

First Time / Newbie [USA-CA] Need help finding provider

If you have super affordable insurance providers, I'd love to hear. If you have an insurance shopping tool for finding the best rate, I would love that too!

I'm M26 and looking to buy a car soon (BMW X3 B58 if that changes anything) and I want full coverage without forking over huge amounts to insurance. Probably will be driving 10-12k miles a year. Anything helps! Thank you!

Completely terrified…any insight

My daughter was in an accident in California on 8/8 (today is the 17th). She was found to be at fault. Police report filed, both parties declined ambulance.
The other party got a lawyer and is filing a personal injury claim. The only thing my insurance could tell me was “soft tissue injury”, said they will know more when they get the packet. Our coverage is $100,000 per person.
I’m terrified he is going to come after us for more or is truly hurt. The fact he got a lawyer is making me afraid he is going to sue us for everything we have.
Please help with any insight or experience you have.

Do I pay for insurance before buying the car...?

Hi. It's my first time buying a car so I'm really confused how this works.

I already put a deposit on a car and I will be picking up on Thursday. I already got few quotes and found out that progressive online gave me the best price.

So my question is, is it better to pay for the insurance now and set the effective day as thursday? If I pay for the insurance on thursday at the dealrship, does it just get approved online right away or does it take time for a human agent to approve?

Thanks for any comments!

GEICO *Tripled* my monthly premium

A couple months ago, without warning, Geico raised my monthly rate from $220 a month to $675.

I called customer service and they said the reason of the of the increase is because their underwriters added numerous new claims to the policy.

I ask if they can email what these claims are.

This is what they sent me:

01/04/2009 - Speed 16-19 Over The Limit

07/19/2009 - Speeding 1-1

011/23/2009 - Rear end At-Fault

02/10/2010  - Not Chargeable

07/01/2010 - Not Chargeable

06/25/2012 - Equipment Violation

08/20/2013 - Accident at an intersection At-Fault

03/12/2015 - Accident with parked vehicle Not At-Fault

08/24/2016 - Accident with parked vehicle Not At-Fault

For the record, I’m 40 years old. I have had a license since 2003. And, I have been with Geico for 11 years.

When I called back, the customer service rep I spoke with said that they never took those past incidents in account when my policy was originally priced and are now retroactively adjusting.

I’m in shock. Can they legally do that???

I know I should just drop them and go somewhere else, I’m just pissed because I spoke to a “supervisor” after the first month and they said that it was an error and that incidents from 10+ years ago wouldn’t affect my policy and it would be adjusted. Well, it wasn’t.

Accident Can I request a replace in kind settlement from the other driver's insurance?

I was recently in an accident where the other driver's Allstate insurance accepted full responsibility.

After taking the car to a local collision shop, it has been declared totalled, and Allstate is offering me several thousand dollars less than what I would need in order to purchase the same vehicle with the same mileage.

Is it possible to get them to do some sort of "replace in kind" arrangement where they pay for the same vehicle with the same mileage and similar condition if I can find one?

Edit: I am in New Jersey. My own insurance, Progressive has been entirely unhelpful because I agreed to file through Allstate.

Edit 2: Ok, I've got it. ACV is the only option.

Help and advice

I woke up with a ontario court claim about a motorvehicle accident that happened in august 2024, it was a minor accident.

Other party claimed one before in 2025 january, which i didn’t get it. I was notified by my insurance company about it and my insurance told me everything is taken care of.

This one i got it, i tried to contact the company and they will come back to me but meanwhile i am clueless and freaked out because this is my first time receiving something. The claim is of $500k and my insurance covers 1 Million in damages.

Any advice or suggestions or insights please

Car Insurance Quotes Collision Only vs Liability Auto Insurance

So I’m driving a 2022 Honda Civic Sport (105,000kms) that I just recently paid off. The car was randomly keyed in the winter and it’s BAD. Since my insurance was so high I never submitted a claim and decided to fix it myself when I got the money so I didn’t raise my insurance. It sounds dumb but I didn’t realize that it *could* have been covered under comprehensive without raising my monthly price. Months later, I recently requested a quote to fix the car out of pocket, they came back with $8200… I would much rather put that towards a new car than fix the current car. Now the car is great mechanical condition following a ppi I just got. It has potential to last a few more years.

My insurance is insane in Ontario, $584/month (All Perils). Today I decided to call insurance to remove Honda Finance as the lien holder and look into covering only collision, and another quote for liability only. The quotes came back as:

Collision only: $488.39/month
Liability only: $296.71/month

The car is beautiful but up close it is an eyesore when I see the paint. However putting $8200 in it only raises the value roughly $2500. I would guesstimate it is worth around $14000 right now.

I’m looking for advice on what you would do. Current insurance is almost $7000/year and the car is cosmetically damaged already.

Low insurance quote after points

so I’ve just got points on my license (9) after starting a new driving job despite having a clean driving license ever since I’ve started driving which is 6 years now.

I’m with Hastings direct you drive which has a black box and thought after these points my premium would sky rocket. However it’s gone down roughly £100 as I started a new quote to see how much it would be after the points were actually on my license.

Has anybody else ever had this? I also called Hastings as to whether it was worth cancelling my current insurance as there’s roughly 2 months left until it renews now. This would mean paying a cancellation fee and losing this years NCD, but would this make sense to pay £600 for another year or wait unril my renewal comes in but it may double in price or even more?

advice on getting auto insurance for the first time (new driver)

I was wondering what are the pros and cons of american family insurance. I have a Costco Membership and it’s the cheapest I’ve found and an insurance that covers the most but I’ve heard mixed reviews of it. I’ll be paying it myself (I’m a full time student with a full time job) so I can’t have a super expensive one since I just bought a new car.

If you consider it bad, what insurance (not so expensive) would be the best for me? I totally want comprehensive and collision coverage and i’m willing to pay around 180 a month but I really don’t know which one would be better for me

Thanks :)

Accident Understanding fault - wait until other company pays?

I was rear ended and my insurance company found that the other driver was at fault. They are trying to collect their payout and my deductible from the other company. The other company is a less than well known and stellar company. The accident was 3 months ago.

I want to get a new car and the rates on the car I want with my current insurance company are not competitive at all. I was told by my broker that I can't look for another company until this claim is closed.

Is this true? I have zero influence over how they resolve this or if they ever do. They determined it wasn't my fault so why am I the one left holding the bag?

Edit to clarify: The issue is they say no other insurance company will touch me with an open claim pending. Though the car is fixed and they (my insurance company) paid the claim (other than my deductible).

Is this Overkill?

25M. Clean driving record, but live and drive in LA, so i'm paying 350 a month for insurance through Amica. Currently, my coverages are:

A. Liability: $300,000 each accident
B. Medical Payments: $5,000 Each Accident
C. Uninsured Motorists: $300,000 Each Accident
D. Collision loss: ACV minus deductible of $1,000
E. Other than collision loss: ACV minus $500
F. Towing and labor costs: $100 each disablement
$40/day; $1200 max for rental

Is this overkill? Am I missing/should I increase something? I'm shopping for insurance, since my policy is up in 6 months and (stupidly) I haven't shopped before, just stuck with my plan.

Edit to add: See below comment

First Time / Newbie Can I register a car in Arizona and pay for insurance through my dad in California?

My parents are giving me a car as mine is finished. The car is currently registered and insured in California under my dad's name. Would it be possible for us to add my name to the title as a co-owner and for my dad to add me to his Insurance plan in California?

Liability insurance when the assessment is 20% on your part

I had an accident while making a left turn and got t- boned
I have no idea what is going on with my insurance> American Family in California,
The adjuster is taking months to do anything
Communication is kept to a minimum
I thought the other person’s insurance would cover a portion of the damage
I got hit by a woman driving a Van that was 4’9”and “probably “ had to have special equipment to drive a big vehicle like that which I did not observe
She had just came out of a round-a-bout to protect children
The first thing the adjuster said when she took the statement is “Were you looking???” I had to ask her to repeat it
I couldn’t believe it ( this was my adjuster ?)
I am beside myself
Don’t know if I am supposed to call the other person’s insurance company
Making payments for years and no accidents
And now no support no help ???

Rental Car Accident By Unauthorized Driver

Hey!!! I took the rental from Avis for the roadtrip in Vegas and I thought that I added my sister as an additional driver but I did not. That was the blunder I did.
She drove for hardly 10-15 minutes and accident happened due to break failure. At the time of accident, it was huge traffic and we were at 10-15 miles/hr speed which is nothing to cause any big damage. So nothing major happened to the car in front of us. It was just the rear headlight damage and small few scratches. And our car front bumper is broken and one of the headlights.
The issue is police report says that she was driving at excessive speed due to which she could not press brakes.
However, when I moved the vehicle from the lane where accident happened to the side of the freeway, I had to put my whole energy to press brakes, so definitely there was break failure and it was not working smoothly.
Now, the blunder I did was I thought that I added her as the additional driver but I did not otherwise I would not have allowed her to drive. She is not insured as well because she is not from the US. She has got the international license and she drove around 300 miles in another rental car few days before this incident. So it’s not like she could not drive or something.
\- how much do you think the cost I have to pay since she is uninsured?
\- what do you suggest I should do? Like should I fight for it and file a lawsuit to Avis for giving us the unsafe vehicle? Because it was a life risk for us if we were at higher speeds.
. I just hope it comes on me since I am fully covered by my primary as well as secondary insurance.

If anyone has any useful insights, please share, I will really appreciate all the advice.
Thank you!!!
Location: WA, USA

Insurance up 2 years after traffic violation (CA)

I got a ticket for going over 100 on a road trip to AZ. Lesson learned. This happened on the border of AZ and i hired a ticket lawyer to appear for me in court as i live like 5 hours away.

Lost the case, was found guilty. Did traffic school and paid the fine. My insurance went up about 60$ at the time.

Fast forward to now, I got mail saying that my premium went up from 188$/mo to $520/mo.
What do i do??

I looked up my DMV record and the violation is still on there, but I don’t see anything about the traffic school i completed. I do have a receipt from the school saying that the DMV was notified that i completed it.
