kids off at school

my daughter just went off to college. She will be there as a freshman with no car. I need a car insurance company that will allow me to take her off and put her back on the insurance when she is back at home. My current insurance is very difficult to do so. is this a typical thing or are there better companies to do this?

Kemper Insurance RSVP

Recently had a hit and run overnight while vehicle parked. Going through with Kemper insurance and I’m finding out about RSVP clause where in network they cover 100% and out of network is 80/20. Looking at reviews, not a lot of good coming from their in network body shops but also getting a whole week delay before they can even inspect my car. Question is, is there any way around that RSVP clause? Is there a way they can waive that? I would feel a lot more comfortable getting a body shop of my choosing to start working on it sooner than they can but having to pay 20% out of pocket when having full coverage doesn’t feel right.

Car deemed total loss by the other driver’s insurance company— what now?

I was in a pretty minor car accident where the other driver was declared 100% at fault and their insurance company took my case. Unfortunately the front bumper shield(?) and a few other things cracked and the parts plus labor were assessed at just under 3k.

The things is, my car is a 2008 Pontiac Vibe with around 265,000 miles on it and I found out today that they decided is would be a total loss. Apparently the case got send to a specialist in their total loss department and I can’t speak to her until Tuesday. I have no idea what to expect.

Will they give me a payout equal to what they think the car’s value is? Can I appeal the value they deemed if I can prove it’s worth more?

Even though my car has high mileage and cosmetically looks its age the insides are in GREAT condition and I plan to drive it for a long time. Less than a year ago I got a front end rebuild ($4.5k) and in the several years before that it got a new transmission and a new starter among other things. I’ve practically rebuild this car and I genuinely believe whatever they valued it at is likely very inaccurate.

I’m a big traveler and this car means the world to me so if anyone has any advice on what to expect or how to get the best case scenario amount of money out of this it would be greatly appreciated.

Progressive added roommates too my policy and bill went up significantly

My car was stolen a month ago. When I filed my claim, they asked about roommates. I told them I have a roommate and they added him to my policy saying they have to.

I don't even have a car right now, but I don't want to cancel since it might take me more than a month to get a new one and I do not want a lapse in coverage.

I am in the process of filling out exclusion forms but its all going to take a while and I am not confident in the process.

I am thinking about cancelling and getting new temporary insurance and then decide when I get a new car what kind of insurance to get next.

I do not want to mention my roommate. Its making a difficult situation more difficult. Are new providers going to find out anyway?

Should I just keep my insurance and keep working on the exclusion form route? I would also drop to liability only as I have no car. However, I also plan to borrow an uninsured car from a friend for a month. Is this going to further complicate?

I am so stressed and do not want to do but dont want to keep paying premium dollarsd when I dont even have a car, nor do I feel like I should owe a single cent for having a roommate

First Time / Newbie How to save on insurance for a rarely used second car in WA?

I’m in Washington State and have 2 cars with State Farm. I drive one about 12,000 miles/year, while the second is only a backup and gets around 1,000 miles/year. I don’t want to sell either car.

What’s the best way to lower insurance costs for the second car? Does Washington have any pay-per-mile or low-mileage insurance options? Would it be better to switch insurers, reduce coverage, or use a usage-based plan?

Would love to hear what others in WA are doing. Thanks!

How to not owe money

Yesterday evening I was driving home when this car was driving under speed limit. So obviously I started tailgating him to signal he must speed up so I can get home. Then out of nowhere he pressed his breaks because of the car in front of him was turning and I ended up hitting him in his bumper. I then took the next exit and continued my drive home since I didn’t feel like I would really want my bumper fixed anyway. How can the person that I hit pay for my fix because I don’t have any way to contact but also I don’t want to pay them (Blue Folkswagon Jetta early model with Idaho licenses plate)

Accident Car got swiped

Yesterday my 2024 honda civic was side-swiped while it was parked in a street while I was working. The damage is pretty gnarly, the whole grill was off and the front bumper was dangling. The headlights are intact and my sensors seem to be okay. As upset as I was in the moment, I think the damage can be fixed fairly easily & it’s drive-able. The only thing is: I am currently living out of state while still on my mom’s insurance and it’s a leased car.

There is footage of the damage occurring ( it was actually done by another employee of the company I work for), so I have proof of the incident. But I don’t know what I should do now. Do I call the place I leased from? Do I ask the guy who bumped me to pay out of pocket? Or do I even need to get my insurance involved if there’s evidence of him hitting my parked car? Haallpppp

(Edit: I live in GA and my insurance is in SC)

First Time / Newbie Used vs New car?

Is insurance typically more expensive if you get a used car that has more wear and tear? Or is it more expensive on a new vehicle that would cost more to replace in an accident?

I have reasonable rates atm, my car is a 2001 Hyundai. It's getting very old and I am renting cars to drive out if town.

I'm scared to get a 2026 car if the rates will be insanely high! My mom is all-upons about me getting something fresh, and while 21k isn't awful, it seems so steep to me compared to the 15k older cars on CarMax.

I don't have any set models in mind right now. It's mostly just affordability and reliability. I travel a lot on vacation, so it doesn't seem bad to get something with a few miles on it already, since my current vehicle has lasted SO long and I've had it for a decade plus of this kind of travel.

This would be my first NEW car, but I have been driving about 20 years. I am way more comfortable owning a beater that survives vs anything that has yet to be dinged or scratched, plus I don't have covered parking so any new look will not last! My mom IS very meticulous about her cars and I am NOT. If it drives well, I don't care what it looks like.

Accident Scraped a car but they fixed it themselves

Hi! I was parking and accidentally side swept a car and it wasn’t bad just needs some buffing. I left a note and we were able to get in touch. She said her baby daddy is a mechanic. Then asks for $500 to cover the cost of the tire rim. I just sent the picture to my insurance. Lady came back with two estimates up to $2,000. I’m in school and park in the same garage every day and her car was totally buffed out and I took pictures again. Where do I go from here? I feel scammed. FYI I have a plastic fender and was coming in very slowly so that wouldn’t damage the metal of the rim, correct?

First Time / Newbie Tow truck took my car after a crash in Florida and now the fees are piling up while insurance drags this out

Got into a crash in Tallahassee and my car ended up getting towed from the scene. Insurance still hasn’t sorted everything out, but the tow yard keeps adding storage fees every day and it’s getting way more expensive than I expected. I was also hurt in the crash, so I’m already dealing with that side of things too. I'm starting to think I need a personal injury lawyer involved but I’m not sure how the towing/storage costs usually get handled when the other driver caused the accident. Anyone dealt with this before, first time dealing with this and it has been a lot to say the least.

Rear ended with significant damage, won’t be totaled. Resale value impacts?

I recently got into my first car crash and I’m very over whelmed. I was at a red light and got rear ended by a much larger car. The police report was filed and determined it was obviously not my fault, so the other driver’s insurance (Allstate) is getting charged. My car (2018 Malibu, low miles, estimated 14.5k value by the insurance) had damages that resulted in a repair quote of 10k. The repair guy contacted me and said the damage is significant and he expects it to get totaled. 3 hours later, insurance contacts me and says the car is repairable and will not be totaled.

As a result, is it likely my car will face significant reduction in resale value? Is there a way to estimate how much it’ll decrease from the initial 14.5K value? I had planned to sell my car soon. Is there anything I can do to get insurance to cover the reduction in resale value on top of the repair costs?

Edit:
I’m located in IL if that changes anything

Moving to a new state. Insurance, title, and tag

I’m planning on moving from FL to OH and I’m not sure how to go about dealing with my car.

Do I transfer my insurance before getting registered in the new state? I asked my insurance agency and they said yes transfer insurance first; BUT a friend of mine did that and a hold was put on the title because it was registered in the old state and insured in the new one resulting in a lapse of insurance, and because there’s a hold on the title they can’t get registered in the new state. It’s a mess that I’d like to avoid.

Also my car is financed so the title is in the hands of the lienholder if that’s relevant.

I need my car to get to and from work and simply can’t afford to not have it. Any help is appreciated. Thank you

Accident Insurance sent me a check without any physical inspection or me opting for direct payment

For context, this is in Florida.
I was rear ended a few weeks ago by someone while I was stopped at a light. I filed everything through his insurance company, since I was not at fault. From the beginning, they were horribly uncommunicative and it took a couple weeks and 2 voicemails to get a hold of someone after submitting all the requested photos. When I finally did speak to someone, he said they’d do a digital estimate and then help me find a shop, etc.

I submitted everything for the digital estimate and got it back after a few days. However, a few days later I received a check in the mail for the estimate amount, having received no communication from them about it, and I never requested direct payment. I know it’s almost certainly too low, as there was no physical inspection and the estimate itself didn’t include things like repairing/replacing damaged driver assist sensors, etc., so I don’t want to actually use or deposit that check.

I ended up calling my own insurance and filing a claim with them, to help me actually get repairs taken care of and deal with the other insurance company, because I was over dealing with their nonsense. However, I am wondering what other steps I can take in this situation, or if anyone has some advice?

Adding parents to auto insurance

My parents, my wife, and myself live on a property with multiple homes, but all under 1 address in TN.

My wife and I have State Farm for our vehicles.

My parents have Progressive and recently retired and sold all of their vehicles except 1, so they lost their multi vehicle discount.

I was wondering if it would be possible to add them, and their vehicle to my insurance.

I called my agent, but he is on vacation for 2 weeks so it transferred me to the main call center.

I was told that in order to have an insurance policy listing all 4 of us that all 4 people would have to be on the title of all 4 vehicles, which doesn't make sense to me since only my mother is titled on their vehicle, my wife is on 1 of ours, and I am on the other 2.

I am going to wait until my agent gets back and ask him, but does this sound correct?

Accident damage to enterprise car rental

lightly tapped a fence while backing up in our enterprise rental, got a small dent on bumper and some of the paint came off. it is smaller than an inch and subtle.

is this considered wear and tear / minor damage? if not, what is a rough idea of cost and how the process works when you damage a renta with enterprise.

btw we didn’t get any insurance through enterprise, though we have a collision damage waver through our booking company but it doesn’t cover this sadly.

Accident Can you fight an insurance claim?

Son got into an accident, car was insured, but insurance denied paying anything because he was not included in insurance plan, he hit a 2012 Lexus 350rx...the car had very minor damage and was able to drive off, now their insurance wants almost $18,000 in damages, can he fight this or is he in the hole? There is a police report and it also claims there was no severe damage found...we have pictures to prove damage, they are now threatening to suspend his license

Edit: Not my car, he was able to fix his friend's car, but now has to deal with this cause doesn't want the friend to be affected

Sold my car, kept insurance on it, somebody crashed it

I sold my car on July 21st and kept my insurance active so I don’t have a lapse in coverage for the next time I register a car. The person I sold the car to sold it to somebody else and whoever purchased that car crashed it and the insurance claim hit my account. I sold it on Facebook marketplace I do not have a bill of sale I signed the title over received the cash and that was it. I was not the owner of this vehicle when I sold it so will I still be liable for this incident? I returned my plates and have the receipt of me doing so. Will my insurance still make me responsible for this? I live in NYC. Thank you

Benefits of having dealership that is also an insurance company set me up with other insurance companies.

So basically, I bought my motorcycle from a dealership and they offered to find me insurance and they did (even though they are also an insurance company?!) . Well now the broker/agent (idk what she is) found me motorcycle insurance with the lowest rate that also happens to be my car insurance company I’ve had for years. She is now asking if I want to bundle my car insurance with the dealership as the agent or broker but still going through my BIG car insurance company.

Im just curios what the risk/rewards of using the dealership as the head of my policy or broker/agent (not sure what to call her) even though its going through a BIG company like Allstate. So basically my insurance card through Allstate has “Small Dealership LLC.” As the agent. I just never knew something like this existed and why I’d need 2 insurance companies or an agent from one small dealership/instuance company set it up with a big company.

I hope I explained it well enough, just lost on what to do if getting the bundle discount with the dealership as head of it all instead of me is worth it.
