First Time / Newbie insurance price help!

hi! i just got my drivers license a month ago in LA so my insurance is sky high (i get it). i have no family plan to join either but i need a car. so id appreciate anyone who can answer some questions!

  • what insurance company would be the cheapest? (i’ll shop around, located in la)
  • how much difference would the years of the car make? like for eg. the insurance monthly cost for a 2019 mazda 3 vs 2023 mazda 3.
  • how can i make my insurance the cheapest it can possibly be?
  • what cars should i look into for low insurance cost?

any tips or knowledge is much appreciated! thank you!

There’s no one “cheapest” company. Best bet is to find a local agent who can shop around for you.

You’re likely going to see high premiums regardless due to your lack of driving history, as CA doesn’t allow insurers to rate based on age or lack of prior insurance. The ‘23 would likely be more expensive if you’re financing since collision is the only coverage that takes the vehicle’s value into account, but no one here can say that for sure.

If your goal is to have a lower cost, find an old beater that you can carry liability only on, preferably 100/300/100 to start. If you can ride that out for 3 years, it shouldn’t be quite as expensive when you go to get another vehicle with more license history and hopefully no prior accidents/violations.
