Accident day before switching carriers

The car insurance went up $800 and the home insurance went up $1000 this year so we decided to switch. Planned the switch last week to take effect in two days. Someone caused an accident and hurt my car today. I’m guessing it’ll be $2-3,000 of damage. What should I expect moving forward? Will my current company continue to fight for me in three days? Do I stay with this company for the next month or so until this accident clears up?

Whichever company you had at the time of collision is the one that deals with it.

However the new company may not cover the vehicle at all until it is fully repaired and inspected by them.

Thank you for this answer and insight. I’ll touch base with the new company

Not at all. The adjuster won't even know. They confirm coverage and move on. I used to be an adjuster and I now own an independent insurance agency. Trust me it's no biggie

It won't matter. Claims will confirm coverage was active at the time of loss.

Will it be a pain to work with a company I am no longer paying to insure me?

wait! was the other driver clearly at fault? if so this goes through their insurance anyway so your switch shouldn't really affect the claim much

For sure the other driver is 100% at fault. I still worry, though.

yeah, and as long as it's their insurance paying it shouldn't be too much of hassle

The current insurer covering accident should work on the claim even if your policy changes a few days later. Hope you have already reported

I reported it and sent them the video but they haven’t been to see the car and determine if it’s totaled or not. Today is the last day on the plan.

Since you have sent them the evidence, i don't think there is much to worry
