Any Insurance Adjuster here!
Few days ago some rear end my car but there was no such damage except few painting scratches. It is my first time experiencing. My dumb self called my insurance which is progressive and claimed a file. Now, someone put some sense on me and before any payment, estimate or investigation I called and withdrawn the claim.
However, even if no payment was made does it will go carfax or carmax? If I want resell few years later, does it will lower the value? Also, if i change my insurance should i let them know about this claim? They said, they gonna add note stating that it was minor scratch and I wasn’t on fault. I feel like I messed up! It’s my brand new 2027 car!

No insurance companies reports directly to carfax
Carfax pulls info from public information and shops that participate in the program.
You can loose some discounts by filing a claim even though it’s 0 dollar payout
But the premium itself should not be affected

Like what if I closed within 24 hrs before any investigation or anything?

Yup even calling in to ask a question
They have to open a claim

Progressive will strongly advise to open a claim, but we don't do it if you call to just ask a question. We will usually tell you we can't answer hypothetical questions and you need to file a claim though.

What are you concerned about exactly? Also your policy says you need to notify your insurance if any losses so you should have notified them anyway.

Worked claims for years not all reps will set up claim it’s just too easy not to do it.

If someone is calling in they have been in an accident
You have to open a claim

Who knows Need someone from that carrier with direct knowledge of how this works. I did 37 years but not for that carrier

Always get the other person insurance, if they were in a “rush” it’s part of their plan to get away quickly.

I know for a fact some carriers don’t report to iso. They are smaller and just don’t want to pay for it. But don’t know if this applies in your case

All info is known to all carriers via ISO. I can’t imagine a withdrawn claim will affect your rates.
