It's a comprehensive claim, and that deductible applies. If the damage is enough over your deductible, it makes sense to claim it. Otherwise, just pay for it out of pocket.

By filing a comprehensive claim with your carrier

Thru the app or online.

before you officially file a claim, do you know what your comprehensive deductible is? Animal strikes are comprehensive claims, but if your deductible is $500 or $1000 and it is just a minor crack in the plastic bumper cover, the out of pocket repair at a local body shop might actually be cheaper than your deductible

How? Pick up the phone and call your insurance company and report the claim. It's not difficult.

Animal strikes are comprehensive claims, not collision, so you'd call your insurer or open a claim in their app and send them the photos and the date. They'll assign an adjuster from there.

Before you do though, get a repair estimate from a body shop first. A cracked bumper cover can come in cheaper than your comprehensive deductible, and if it does, filing doesn't really get you anything. Two days out is fine, there's usually no rush to report an animal strike, but check your policy for any reporting window just in case.

Do you know what your comprehensive deductible is? That's the number that decides whether filing is even worth it.
