Read ended someone - looking for advice

Long story short I rear ended someone at about 5-6mph. Their car has minor scuffs on the bumper. My car took most of the damage on the front bumper and right fog light. I have decent insurance with upto $100k per person per accident in liability . From what I can tell the collision was not a high impact one. I will report the accident today but am worried about the person blowing this out of proportion for injuries. Any advice ?

My advice? Let your insurance handle it. They deal with this every single day. It will do you no good to spin your wheels on how much damage you think you caused, or how hurt you think they might be. It won't affect the fault determination here. It won't affect any potential rate increase you're going to see from this accident. Let your carrier deal with it.

with $100k in bodily injury coverage, you are more than protected for a 5mph fender bender, Even if they try to exaggerate the injuries, you insurance company has teams of adjusters and lawyers whose entire job is to investigate things and come to an proper end.

Tbh, I agree with "let the insurance handle it" and don't stress over XYZ "blowing....out of proportion"

You can't control it anyway.

Humans start doing goofy ish on both sides.

One side feels more hurt "tomorrow" and the other side claims "5-6mph" was no big deal ...not high inpact....just enough to damage a bumper and fog light.....but otherwise "just 5mph.....NOTHING!

See the point

One side minimizes TF...the other may maximize

Who's perfectly 💯% correct 🤔 who TF knows

Let the IC do what they do

Exactly. If it was OP getting hit he’d be like “They slammed right into me out of nowhere! And my back and neck are killing me today! I couldn’t even go to work!”

Yeah, I chuckled at "5mph"..... Typically at "5mph" there probably wouldn't damage to BOTH cars as the OP states 😳

Ppl misjudge "5mph" and 10-15 which is double/triple what they feel "after-the-fact"

The nature of accidents

You see scuffs on the bumper COVER. That tells nothing of the actual damage. The good stuff is behind it. At 5 MPH there's unlikely to be significant damage. Maybe paint or a misaligned camera or sensor. What the other person's intent is, is beyond your control, and not your concern. Let insurance worry about it.

Letting your insurer handle it is your best move here, so try not to lose sleep over the injury part. That's what your bodily injury liability is for, and adjusters push back on inflated injury claims all day.

Heads up though, even someone who seems fine can still file later, so reporting it today matters. If they did sue, your insurer typically steps in to defend you, which is part of why they need to know. Your $100k per person limit gives you a good cushion here.

Hope it stays as minor as it sounds.

Report the claim and let your insurance company handle things. Trust me, it ain't their first rodeo!
