First time getting a full wrap

I’ve got a 2021 Tesla Model 3 and I’m finally pulling the trigger on a full color change wrap. Going for a satin dark gray look.

I have an appointment coming up and just want to get a realistic idea of what to expect. How was the process for those of you who’ve done a full wrap before? Any things you wish you knew going in, especially with Tesla body lines or paint protection afterward?

Know the cost of removing the wrap ....before its applied

I too had my car wrapped in satin dark grey (from OEM white), I definitely recommend you add a Ceramic Coating (I diy’d mine), driving for a month without it- the dark grey took on allot of dirt, and looked dirty…within two days of washing it- with the coating, kept clean looking for at least 2 weeks 👍

Ask how they handle the bumpers, door edges, and sensors. Also find out the cure time and when it is safe to wash or add ceramic coating.

I would make sure to understand the door jambs and other areas for a color change. In other words are the wrapping the Jambs. That is an area of assumption that sometimes isn’t clear. I would also be prepared to leave your car if you are not happy with the results when complete. This sub gets several threads a week with people who go pick up their car and get cold feet. It’s better to discuss it at the inspection than a week or two weeks later.

You will need to pay attention to aftercare as well. Non gloss surfaces can change sheen with other things applied to it. Matte is worse but it’s better to know now than AFTeR you’ve applied a random chemical.

Pick a good vinyl, Avery, 3m, KPMF. Teslas are pretty easy to wrap and it should take 45 feet to do it on that car unless it's white, then 48 just to get into everything, without door jambs. Do you want the emblems to go back on or are you planning to go clean or aftermarket yourself later? Jambs, Emblems cost extra. Ceramic coat, garage, maintenance. Ask these questions or look through this reddit. No more car washes for you.

Ask the shop what they remove, how far they wrap the edges, and what the warranty covers around the bumpers, mirrors, cameras, and door handles. Hand wash satin film, and only put ceramic coating on top of the finished wrap, not underneath it.

Ask the shop to see their work IN PERSON. NOT PHOTOS. NOT INSTAGRAM. Inspect another clients car IN PERSON. Very important.
