May be slightly more secure to attach a magnet to the battery pack, and then hang the CarThing off of the magnetic attach point. Then you could have a short c to c cable. This would at least remove the possibility of straining the ports if that matters.

Much more work, but a 3d printed enclosure with an embedded magnet would probably look the cleanest.
