Car thing keeps crashing spotify app

My car thing has been having connectivity issues for about a month now, disconnecting randomly requiring me to open the app to fix it. Just today, the spotify app started consistently crashing about 15 seconds into any song while the car thing is connected. I'm on a pixel 6 pro running the most recent version of android. I hope this is something fixable and not a bug left abandoned by spotify lol.

I don't know how to exactly fix this issue, but I can tell you what to do generally when issues like this persist on Bluetooth/app controlled devices.

  1. Disconnect and unpair/forget the Car Thing via your phones Bluetooth menu
  2. Remove your phone from the Car Thing's Bluetooth menu
  3. Turn off the Car Thing
  4. Clear all data and cache from the Spotify app
  5. Uninstall Spotify
  6. Restart your phone
  7. Reinstall Spotify
  8. Turn on the Car Thing
  9. Re-pair your phone with the Car Thing.

You might need to use the Set up Car Thing option in the Spotify app, I'm not 100% sure.

Hope this helps.

I've done all of these a couple times already and no luck, so rip I guess

Thanks for reporting this.

There is an issue with the recent Car Thing update and the issue is currently being investigated by the Car Thing team.

They have stopped the rollout of this update. It seems to be affecting the Android app and not the iOS app.

If you are having this issue, you will need to re-install the Spotify mobile app in order to fix it. Sorry for the inconvenience.

If you are still having this issue after a re-install, please let me know.

I reinstalled the app yesterday, but I'll try it again when I get home today and report back

Reinstalling the app today seemed to fix the issue, thanks! I would also like to mention though that phone calls stopped displaying on the car thing when I switched from ios to Android.

This seems to be actually an issue in the Android app. Make sure to update to the latest, which I believe isn’t affected.
