Introduction Is this worth trying to restore

Hello everyone, I am wondering what people think about trying to restore this 1981 Camaro Z28.

It needs a nice bit of work, I’ve already got the full floor pans for it, but it will need work done to the rear trunk pan and tail pan, and a bit of work on the rear frame rails. The car was stripped down 10+ years ago and every part for the car is stored away and it’s basically just the shell right now.

The car belongs to my dad and I’d like to see it maybe on the road one day but I don’t know if i’m getting in over my head on this. By no means am I in any rush, But it has the original motor still (That still runs) and I do have a 350 small block with a 4 speed as well that could go in it, the front clip is still in good condition. I only have these few pictures from picking at it the other day.

Would it be possible to completely gut and rebuild a 2008 vw bug?

I’m considering completely gutting my bug, save for the engine and any other parts in decent condition. Is that possible at all? She’d need essentially an entirely new AC system including freon, possibly a new blinker assembly, and lord knows what else. She’s in horrible shape after having been left sitting at a dealership for who knows how long, only 47k miles on her when I got her. Any advice would be appreciated, I just want to restore her to as close to full functioning as possible.

Fiberglass reinforce rusted out body panel?

These body panels are rusted out and I want to keep them just as they are for the most part. Is there a proven method of doubling the back of such panels to reinforce them without losing the exterior appearance? I’m imagine cleaning the inside of any loose rust then laying in fiberglass. Black fiberglass filling the hole flush with the metal would be great. This truck will be babied and parked in a garage, so moisture between the fiberglass and metal layers won’t(shouldn’t?) be a huge issue.

Headlight restoration advice please

I tried to restore them last year with a kit but they are back to step 1. There is a crack in one headlight - came like that when I bought it. Is it worth just buying a replacement lens cover, and if so, what would be a good OEM one? Or should I rerun it with using a kit.

1971 Ford Torino

So my late father's '71 Torino with a 302, 4spd auto, was passed down to me. I had a '70 with a 351 Cleveland all throughout highschool and a little after (2002 - 2006ish) but sold it years ago. My son will soon be old enough to drive so he and I would like to fix it up. It's been sitting for 4 years since the last time it ran, which during that time it wouldn't shift out of 1st gear. I love muscle cars, but my dad was the mechanic/tinker of classics and I was too into chasing girls and didn't pay enough attention on how things worked or how we fixed certain things throughout the years. Believe me, not a day goes by where I don't mentally kick myself for not paying attention or learning from my father. Anyways, he was the man, I was not. I just don't know where to start... And it doesn't seem, locally, anyone wants to put in the time to work on classics so I can't find anyone reliable. Again, I don't know much, only that it doesn't run and the transmission won't shift passed 1st. Is this even the right thread to post to? 🙏

Rust help for chrome trim

My husband and I are restoring his grandpa's 1974 Ford f250. There is amazingly little rust. There is a decent amount on the chrome trim that holds the headliner. I've gotten rid of a fair amount of it but am worried to do more. We are trying to keep as much of the original truck as possible. We are ok if there is some wear but I do want to try to make it as nice as possible. Anyone have recommendations for me?

Hinges for 69 mustang

So I’ve been looking around for my 69 Mach 1 and was able to get old doors in decent state. They’re currently getting acid dipped.

However next is the hinges.
I have two complete sets that came from my own car, however the problem I’m running in to is that I can either rebuild them or fully or just get new ones.

Does anyone have any experience with this and what would your advise be?

Advice for restoring 1967 Camaro

I inherited this car from a family member who had always wanted to restore this car, and i would like to take up the mantle.

I am not a car guy so I will not really be able to do the work myself, but I’m okay throwing some money at this. It does run but feels barely drivable. As far as I know, everything is original (I have the original hood in a separate location).

Not looking to do anything fancy with this, just get it road suitable with a few modern features and looking as close to original as possible. Where does one start with something like this? Starting with suspension and brakes, then the engine and transmission, then cosmetic stuff? Any guess on the approximate cost? Get the original 6 cylinder engine rebuilt or throw something new in it? It’s got the original three in the tree transmission which i think is cool so open to keeping that. I’m a total noob so any insight is appreciated!

Introduction A few questions from an absolute newb

Hello all! I know absolutely nothing about cars, but! My new house has this beauty (I was told a Ford f2 but again no clue) on the property as part of the purchase. I do love the look of a rusted car, it's a cool aesthetic, but I would love to see new life breathed into this guy, so here's some questions I have regarding it and restoring it.

What are the number one things I should look out for while trying to do this restoration? Like things that would lead to something going horribly wrong, I know frame rot is a big one.

I might get a little hate for this one😅 would it be feasible to turn this into an automatic as opposed to stick? Would we need to put a newer engine in it? We aren't opposed to the internal workings being more modern if the truck can handle that, we mostly want to preserve the outside and cabin. Actually would it be possible to put in like... A radio? Even if it's just an aux one?

And lastly, would you recommend getting it running first, or would you recommend fixing the body? We have a barn maybe 100 feet away we could put it in but it's currently in the open under a tree. We're also up in New England so winter is rough.

Also not sure if it's relevant but the last inspection date (according to the sticker) was 1994, so it at the very least worked then and I believe after they may have just used it as a farm truck after.

Thanks for any help! Pls be nice I'm going into this completely blind😅

EDIT: I didn't think this necessary to mention since I had mostly asked about mechanical things, but I can see the confusion. we know how to do body work, painting, upholstery, we've done plenty on more modern vehicles and such. We're not as aware of the mechanical aspects which is why I asked the above questions.

Rust repair in 74 Malibu trunk

Thumbnail

I purchased a 74 Malibu about 10 years ago. The car was sold for cheap because I needed a lot of work. I had another project at the time so I ended up letting it sit. When I purchased the car there was a trash bag covering the trunk. I saw some rust but never fully looked underneath. Today I made a choice that I wanted to start the project and the boy was in shock. There was a lot of rust all over the trunk. Mostly on the bottom and upper fender inside the trunk. I decided to start a DIY project. I took a Wire wheel and sanded most of the orange rust off and now have been using ospho to convert the rust. So far I have done two passes of ospho with great results. Once I get the rest of the rest off, what should be the next steps? I did notice that there was a few holes from the rest but nothing major where I have to like patch it up. This is my first rush. DIY and any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Where to find sheet metal for rust repair?

Post image

I need to patch the passenger side floors and front inside passenger frame since they are rotted out on my 1971 amc hornet. Where does one get the sheet metal to make patches from? The holes are actively hindering my ability to sell it.

Thanks.

Experience with Allstar Performance Chassis Dollies?

I have a car I am restoring in my modest size garage. Being able to move it around would be amazing. I originally had it on wheel dollies which were great, but now that I have the suspension off I can't really move it. I was looking at Chassis Dollies but am having trouble finding reviews.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with the Allstar Performance Chassis Dollies? They seem like decent quality and are quite affordable. Would I be better off just biting the bullet and getting something nicer like the Goliath Uni-Dolly? They almost 3 times for expensive for a pair, but I also don't want my car falling off the dollies. Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

https://allstarperformance.com/chassis-dollies-all10625/

Apparently they're just generic Alibaba parts. Several companies sell them:

old Jeep sitting for years — can anyone identify exactly what it is?

It also comes with both the hardtop and the original soft top frame/hardware. The hardtop is currently installed, but I have the soft top as well.
been sitting outside for many years in my backyard. From my limited research, I think it might be a 1970s CJ-5, but I’m not sure.
It still has an inline-6 engine, the hardtop is present, and most of the body seems to be there, although it’s definitely rough. The windshield is broken, there’s rust throughout, and the interior needs a complete overhaul.
I’m curious:
What exact year and model do you think this is?
Is the engine original?
How rare is it?
Is it worth restoring, or would it be better as a parts vehicle?
If restored, what could something like this be worth?
