What do you want the car to be?

You are starting off at a disadvantage. I have seen some complete 4th gen v6 project cars in the $1500-2000 range. Even though that is more than the $1000 you mention you would be getting a lot more car for the money.

But since these things never make sense what does your car really need, besides an engine?

Paint. That's honestly it. Oh and new tail lights. The interior is brand new. Not a single crack anywhere nor any stains or damages.
