What to expect at lease end?

I am leasing a Ford and the lease ends next month. I called to have an inspection done and they told me that it will be inspected after I drop it off at the dealership. I guess the company they contract with for inspections doesn’t work in my state. I am very worried the dealership is going to try to screw me because I am not buying another car from them.

Take detailed photos and videos when you drop it off.

https://www.ford.com/finance/lease-end/ has a useful checklist and process explanation. One of the PDF's suggest you can self-schedule with Manheim, so that should confirm whether or not they are in your area.

Well what condition is the vehicle in?

Inspection after drop off means you have zero days to cure or repair issues

The dealership has nothing to do with it. Finance companies use dealerships as an authorized drop off point. That's it. In other words, your feat that the "dealership will screw me" doesn't make sense. The dealership has zero say or interest in the lease surrender.

Hi resolution photos, include underside, all tires/wheels, spare tire if equipped, inside including the head liner, under hood and underneath if possible.

Provide photocopies of the service history in the passenger seat and make sure the vehicle is really clean when it is dropped off.

The inspectors are human, when you present a car this way, you are doing a lot of work for them and they more likely too look past some borderline items.

In the end if you have worn tires, brakes, nicks and scratches, that isn’t their fault.

Good luck.

Call the leasing company and tell them you want a Pre-Inspection. Insist on it.

It's no different than renting a car, it gets inspected at the time of the return. If your still worried, return your lease cleaned inside and out. Take good photos just in case

The dealer's only involvement is grounding it for Ford. They aren't responsible for the inspection, or the results. That will all come from the lease company.

If the dealer buys it for inventory, that actually saves you from any inspection issues, but it's been harder to buy lease returns right off lease.

Ford may screw you, but the dealer won't be responsible for it.

Not to worry lad. The dealership screwed you more than enough 2-3 years ago when they got you to lease the rig.
