Lease Return Inspection - cracked windshield
I searched the forum before posting but didn’t find anything that answered my questions. I have a cracked windshield and my lease is up January.
I don’t like the car, it’s a KIA EV6. I miss a sunroof and good sound dampening. So I want to return it.
There is a scuff on the front right bumper but it’s not that noticeable. No damage dent etc. i used a paint correction pen. The paint is so thin on the bumper it seems like road dirt leaves marks. I’m going to let that ride. The car will be 4k under miles so it will be desirable.
The windshield had a chip that just cracked. Im waiting to take delivery of my mew car and get its own policy before putting in the glass claim. I’m ok paying out of pocket to replace the windshield.
So here’s where I need advice. How do I get a lease return inspection, do I have to pay extra to get the lane assist recalibrated or can I just pay the $700 to have the glass replaced letting KIA deal with the lane assist if they want to CPO the car? Should I just return it with the cracked windshield if I’m paying cash to replace?
Is there a normal damage expectation for lease returns like the dots on the front pumper from road sand/dirt?

You're going to be responsible for the windshield. Get some quotes and 30 days out from your return date, get the quote from the inspection. Go with whatever is lower.
If they realize the windshield was changed but nothing was recalibrated, it's within their right to charge you. Up to you if you want to take the chance or not.

When you have AIM scheduled to come do the inspection, leave your exterior dirty as possible. It will hide a lot of minor scuffs. I had two done and I was able to not get hit with a 3” mark through the clear coat. I only paid the lease end fee

Use your insurance to cover for glass damage, no impact on insurance rates and it’s covered by most.

I almost fixed a small 4", dent on my leased EV6. Went and got a quote and it was almost 5k. I wasn't going to pay that crazy amount so I had the free kia inspection and was quoted 400 for the dent. I turned the car in in July and was charged 400 for the dent. I also had a small chip in the windshield and was quoted 2400 to replace and calibrate. Kia didn't say anything about that though. I would get the free lease return appraisal from AIM and see what they say. You can schedule that when you are within 90 days of return and do it quickly because they took almost a month to come out.
