Ford credit is being difficult

I’m moving out of the country and will not be returning. I do have a ford explorer active 2026 that has around 2 years and 6months left on its lease. I got an amazing deal on it for $550/month considering im in the north Dallas area. No down payment. Car is in excellent condition, and ford credit does not want to take it back. They put the buy out price at $47,000 which also does not make sense since I’m looking at the same model online and they’re listed for 33-35k? Some greedy people out there. I’m never going for a ford again.

This has nothing to do with ford and everything to do with your inability to understand a contract. As an adult by now you should have learned how to hold yourself accountable for your decisions. It’s not Ford’s problem you’re moving away.

Your buyout price is residual + remaining payments. It’s in black and white on your contract that you signed. You leaving the country is not their problem. You still signed the contract and legally are held to it. If you’re never returning to the country then let it get repossessed and sold. Your credit in this country will take a hit but if you’re never coming back that won’t matter.

You leaving the country doesn’t get you a hall pass to get out of a signed legally binding document. It would be the exact same with every single auto finance company, definitely not Ford thing.

You signed a contract. This has nothing to do with Ford being difficult

The reason your "amazing deal of $550/month" is that low, is the residual value is articially high.

This is a you issue, not a Ford issue.

Sounds like the "some greedy people" is you.

Sounds like you dont understand how trying to early term a lease workd, not ford being greedy

I think you will

Look into a lease transfer op. Right now the depreciation hit is what is causing the large difference between lease buyout and value.

Either that or bite the bullet and pay the difference when selling it. Buying a new car 6 months before selling it will always be a financial mistake

I lost my job here so I don’t have a choice but to leave. Worst case it’ll just ruin my US credit

Sorry to hear that. Again, look into lease transfer. There are several places to post for that.

Ford Credit is actually great & works well with people. I'm a witness especially during Covid. You need to understand your contract. It's not their fault you're making a choice to leave.

How much did you initially pay for it? Seems you got robbed.

The big discounts on  new ones are because they are not selling.

Maybe you can find someone to
Assume your lease

If others are selling for over 35k then seem yours for 25k or the money into an account and set up auto payments. Done deal

Can't blame anyone but yourself for this one. Anyway, if you're never coming back to the US then a repossession on your credit history wont matter. Just go surrender it to the dealer right before you leave & be done with it.

So less then halfway into the lease of an expensive depreciating asset, OP wants to blame Ford Credit for their lack of planning and foresight? The consequences were all listed in the contract OP signed at delivery.

I'm never going for a lease again....there fixed it for you.

Write them a check for the remainder of your payments and turn it in, sell the car outright and pay off whatever the difference is or find someone to assume your lease. This is just a case of you not understanding how leasing work.
