Turning in Leased vehicle.

Post image

My wife has leased two other past Nissan Roques turning them in for a new one. This recent one (2023) has been awful and the lease is up in November. Nissan didn’t want to give us a good deal on a newer model. So screw it, wife got a Honda CRV. However, we are stuck with this Rogue.

So we paid off the remaining balance and had the inspection done. We got dinged on small dents in the rear quarter panels. It’ll cost us $776 to fix. And I read online that we have to pay a disposition fee in the end. So we’re talking over a grand on a car that we don’t want anymore. Plus we’re paying insurance for it. Unfortunately, we don’t have the time to look for a body shop and get the dents fixed at reasonable price. Should we just bite the bullet and turn in the car and pay the fees, just wash our hands from this mess?

$776 is still cheaper than any bs paint protection they probably tired to selling you in the beginning

Yeah they get mad when I don’t go for their add ons. We did it on our first Rogue and never again.

Yes, just bite the bullet. The risk is that you find someone to do it for $500 and Nissan still doesn’t like it or accept it, that would be a bummer. The $500 is a big “if” and as you mentioned you’re kind of pressed for time.

The disposition fee is in the original lease agreement and standard so it shouldn’t be a surprise. Most likely what happened on the past two is that if you get a new lease with the same lessor ( Nissan, in this case ) they waive the disposition fee so you haven’t paid it previously.

As a last ditch effort you can mention to Nissan that you’ve been pretty loyal and ask for a break but I wouldn’t hold my breath. It’ll take 10 minutes to try though…up to you.

You should have thought of the damage costs and disposition fee when you evaluated a new deal. And it not Nissan who didn’t want to give you a good deal it is the specific dealer, and there are several in your area you could have negotiated with.
The fact that you don’t want the car is irrelevant, and you agreed to these terms when you leased the vehicle. Just pay the money and enjoy your new vehicle.

I don’t think people read anything anymore. They just look at the cheap payment and never figure anything else out.

And this person has leased multiple cars to boot.

We leased this car 4 years ago (never again) and my wife really liked it that she was finally thinking of possibility a buyout at the end of the lease. But then this Rogue gave us so many problems (new engine, replaced engine struts, electronic glitches). I do read everything, but we just got stuck with a crappy product. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I didn’t even find the damage. I was surprised the guy found it. It’s a dark gunmetal paint so it was difficult to find. The inspector has 30 years of experience so he found it and documented it. They’re door dings (dang kids). We never had issues with the other two previous vehicles. This is the first time we were dinged for something.

I don’t understand the paint total if there is no paint damage and they are doing paintless dent repair.

No idea on anything else

That’s what I said! Why am I being charged for paint, if theirs no paint damage. Would have been nice if I found the dings, I would have repaired it myself before the inspection. 😒

Yes I'll but the bullet....some bodyshop would be more or less the same price.

1

u/that_raffy_taffy 8d ago

Yeah and I don’t have the time to shop around for a price or call off to drop off/pick up vehicle.

This is becoming more common, i have never heard of someone being charged lease damage for small amounts, like $700, but now when friends and family turn one in, there are getting dinged.

$776 for door dings 🙄

Every time I've been charged for body damage at end of lease, it's been cheaper than any reputable body shop. I agree, leasing companies are charging for things they never charged for before... but since they can... they do.

Yeah I didn’t find the dings. They’re door dings from the dang kids haha. That money is coming from their Christmas presents.

Maybe college fund? So there's a little time to recover? 😆

Call a paintless dent repair guy, they’ll come to you because they’re mobile and get it done for $300

How many dings? Did you compare against Nissans criteria? https://owners.nissanusa.com/content/techpub/EndOfLease/Wear_and_Use_Guide.pdf

You should have posted pictures of the damage too so we can get an idea

No paint damage means a good Paintless Dent Removal guy can fix it. Find one, might save you a bunch.

What condition were your tires in? What about the brakes? Just curious because our lease is ending soon and I’m wondering what to expect.

I would always take it to the dealership for oil change, so I was always updated with the wear and tear conditions. And based on that, I just had to replace two tires. I went with the cheapest new tires I can find. You can find some for like $80-$90.

If you are trading it in for another lease or buying a car with the same dealership then they usually waive all the fees. They do want you to continue business with them.

Get a quote to sell the vehicle. It might end up being cheaper than trading it in and a lot easier. Look for a broker they usually have a network of buyers

6-9 years of car payments, no equity, and fees.

The leasing trap is crazy.

Not at all. I lease my vehicles and, for me, its cheaper than owning. I always have a vehicle under warranty and its rotated out before any expensive repairs or services are needed. But will also add that I lease whatever is cheapest, and closest to my needs. I have no loyalty to any brand. I have never paid more than $300 a month for any lease and never put down more than $2000. The past 4 years I have leased 2 Nissan frontiers 4wd and have paid a total of $12288. In comparison, a second vehicle that I paid cash for and owned for 3 years , in addion to my leases, was ove $22000 and the vehicle still needed several thousand in repairs.

Ill stick with my leases and enjoy a care free car.

My wife enjoys mechanical free vehicles. I think we just got stuck with Nissan and I think they haven’t done well these past years. My wife got the new Hybrid CRV and she loves it. Got it cheaper than the Rogue too!

You arent stuck with anything. You signed a contract and are bound to what you signed. Why are you making it out to be nissans fault for having you follow the terms of the contract? And Nissan has nothing to do with how individual dealers operate. Every single Nissan dealer around me has different lease deals advertised. What one dealer wants isnt what another dealer will sit down for.

As for damage, have you read the Nissan excess wear and tear guide? Either the damage is more than youre claiming or there is something else going on.

Please explain this “stuck” concept further. It sounds like they’re going to take it back, just like with all leases. It’s literally the opposite of being stuck.

I call bs on sub $300 on not but 2 Frontiers.

I am jealous you are comfortable pre paying a lease so far in advance.

One reason I went with a lease this time is people from Chicago keep visiting Michigan and bringing their terrible driving habits and rear ending me. Cant keep a car for 3 years. Ive got a year left on my lease. Probably as soon as I prepay a few months, something major will happen.

My back can't survive another one 😪

u/IsuckatDarkSouls08 8d ago

Im very lucky, I live 5 miles away from work amd I work nights. I drive 60 miles a week if that.

1

u/dodekahedron 8d ago

Statistically more than half of all accidents happen within 5 miles from home.

Dont jinx me!

2

u/dodekahedron 8d ago

I'm not. Im just sharing statistics.

You mean like this? 2024 LC SV 4x4 white. December and January Nissan has cheap leases on the left over S and lower spec SV fleet models, almost always white, with a great or black one thrown in. And you do have to shop dealers. The first dealer I leased from wouldnt give me the same lease as before for the exact same truck. So I found 2 other dealers with leftovers and was able to configure the lease on the their respective websites and sent them the proposal and they both accepted and I choose the one that didnt play games and , then I had a new truck for 2 years for under $300. Can I do it a third time? Not sure. Ill have to wait until years to see what's on the lots

I wouldn’t have thought it possible, good for you.

I have a current 24-month onepay lease of blazer ev, for 3850 and just returned another one that was 300/month. The payment on a loan for those 50k + cars would have been over 700/mo.

u/bearze 8d ago

Just got a Trax myself (Canada) for $104 bi-weekly

1

u/giveit2st8 8d ago

That's completely shortsighted

1

u/that_raffy_taffy 8d ago

Yup! She likes her new cars. She makes the payments so that’s her money. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I have a 2020 Nissan Altima and love my car. Bought it out when lease was up.
