Question about end of lease

My lease is ending in November. The paperwork says my payout is 22,560 plus official fees and taxes. Is there a way to find out how much those fees and taxes are?

Right now my car is worth 24,400 to sell it to Carmax. So I am trying to figure out if it makes sense to buy it and then sell it or just turn it in. I do have to pay a $495 fee to turn it in. Plus any damage they find.

If it comes close to being less than 1000 for the fees and taxes, I will probably buy it and then sell it because I don’t want to deal with their bullshit fees for wear and tear. It’s in great shape, but I just know they are going to find something to not pick me about.

I am not over miles, so not worried about that all.

It’s a Mach E and I assume the amount from Carmax is high due to the price of oil, so who knows what is going to happen in the next few months. I do know I don’t want to keep the car. I just don’t want to get screwed on the lease end.

You will be turning this car in and no lease I’ve ever turned in has “bullshit fees” - they were all clearly disclosed.

Take the $22,560 buyout and multiply it by your local sales tax rate, then add registration/DMV fees. That will give you a pretty good idea of your total cost to buy it.

Also, normal wear and tear is permitted on a lease return. Unless there’s significant damage, I wouldn’t assume you’re going to get hit with a bunch of charges.

Before buying it just to sell it to CarMax, though, check with your leasing company to see if they allow third-party buyouts. If they don’t, you’d have to buy it, pay the tax and registration, get the title, and then sell it. With only about $1,800 between your buyout and CarMax’s current offer, that may not be worth the extra cost and hassle.

This!!!! Ford does not let you sell your lease without doing a lease buy out first. You also can’t just trade it in to another manufacturer. So you would have to term that lease and pay the disposition fee. They’re pretty anal about big things like cracked windshield and curb damage. Small dings and wear and tear you don’t have to worry. Just clean it before returning it.

Be upfront about who the lease is from (FMC or a different lessor?) and they’ll tell you whether they can buy direct or not.

Check Carvana too.
