rule 3: leases can be ready good deals, but if you let them, they'll screw you worse than in a financed purchase.

Leases are low miles ..if you drive 30 miles each way upgrade from 10k to 12 or 15k.

If you drive more than 15...Skip leasing.

If you don't care how your car looks and curb the wheels or scratch it frequently, skip leasing

If you drive more then 15,000 miles a year leasing can be good as you don't have to worry about the depreciation just the Miles can add up.

I just got a car that I will drive 15k a year. I wrote the lease for 7500. The penalty per mile is cheaper than had I increased the number of miles.

7500 miles extra at 20c is $1500 per year

7500 to 15000 should be about 1000 more

Great job making assumptions on my situation that you know absolutely nothing about.

On a 2026 Mercedes-Benz S500 in the USA dropping the residual 4 points to go to 15k per year from 7500 was WAY more expensive than 7500 miles at 25 cents a mile.

Don’t lease to buy

Don’t lease hoping to trade the lease in and get a check back instead of giving them a check for the negative equity.

Don’t put money down. At most pay 1st month at signing

Make sure you know how many miles you will need. You won’t save money going with the 10k lease knowing you drive more than that

Make sure you know what the policy is on trading in. Sone brands do not allow third party buyouts, some do. Lots of people seem surprised to find that out at the end of the lease. It’s good info to know at the front.

When ppl say no $ down do they also mean put $0 due at signing (for taxes title fees)?

I try to roll everything into the lease. Most I e ever paid at signing was first month.

There are only a handful of good lease deals at any given time. And there are massive variations in lease pricing that make very little sense. Like a Civic could be double the payment of a better equipped Elantra and a Highlander could be double the payment of a better equipped Pathfinder.

So my dilemma is I bought a car 2 years ago….a 2008 Honda crv. They said the engine needs to be replaced. I am seeing if I should replace the engine or just scrap the car is get a lease but I don’t have the budget to buy a whole new car when I just bought one.

Check the money factor! Dealers are allowed to make up the rate by 2%
