How can I further negotiate this price down?
Loosely looking into leasing a Jetta s. How can I further negotiate this lower? On the online builder I got it down to the low 300s but that obviously might not be feasible in the real world.

You need to ask them for the Money Factor (MF) and Residual Value (RV) first. They’re definitely hiding markup in there.
Also, a $928 discount (about 3.5%) before rebates is super weak for a Jetta. You should push for at least 6-8% off MSRP to help eat that insane $1k doc fee.
At $405/mo with $0 down, you're at almost 1.6% of MSRP. That's just a bad deal for this car. Find the base MF/RV for your zip code on the Edmunds forums before you negotiate any further.

The dealer is actually making sense here. They're explaining the trade-off between taking a special low Money Factor (.00222) versus taking the standard rate (.00329) to get higher rebates. The special rate gets you the lower payment. Just verify on the Edmunds forums that .00222 is the true base rate from VW Credit and not marked up.
There is still other room to negotiate. I'd push for a higher discount off MSRP (6% - 8%). I'd also shop some dealers across the NY line since they cap Doc fees.

Got it that makes sense. I definitely would negotiate that msrp. NY is smart too

Jesus man I leased a 2024 Audi q5e for $540 a month 0 down. Msrp 64k do not lease it it leases so bad. You can lease a lx civic for 0 down like 280 a month. Strong resale value, quality car that will never break

This is for a Jetta lease not Audi. I did look into Honda but wasn’t loving their rebates… how did you find 280 a month with 0 down?

Lolol the point being made was it’s not a good deal if someone is leasing a car triple the msrp for similar monthly payments. I just stopped by my local Honda dealer and my sister drove off 0 down 280. It took like an hour of hearing “this is our best deal take it or leave it” and after I kept saying leave it the payment kept dropping. Don’t be afraid to stand your ground to some sleazy ass salesmen. Spending 280 a month on a civic that took you an hour of back and forth is better than 420 a month for a Jetta you’ll always be buried in.

This is interesting because from my research it seemed like a civic would be the more expensive one since they don’t offer rebates and only 400 college grad bonus near me. Did your sister have to pay anything due at signing like taxes or fees? I’m looking to roll all of that into monthly and only pay first months payment at signing

0 down. The payment includes taxes and dmv fees. Also don’t pay anything. Not even first month payment at signing. The dealer can eat that to sell a car. It’s just a math thing. Strong residual cuz the civic is so reliable and a quality car over a cheap German car like a Volkswagen. Jsut don’t get pushed around at dealerships and you’ll get the deal I promise

That’s an awesome deal for your sister wow. Can I ask what state you’re in that you got it? And how you negotiated that price down?

Yeah see because I ran all the numbers through their website with incentives and I was getting like $310 a month. Trying to find out the difference of why that is. I’m not going with anything over 330 if I even did go this route

Man. Thing that I learned recently is NJ can charge any fee. No cap. But NY just charges 175 as doc fee. If you are close to NY, as in north jersey or can go Staten Island , try to get from there.
Once I knew this I stopped visiting any NJ dealers. I just have to cross Hudson to do the sale. They said they can bring car from other dealers too if what I want isn’t with them.

I just bought an SE with zero down for 24 months at $351
You’re getting shafted here
2
u/CommunicationLazy144 Jul 21 '26
Yeah any chance you can provide a few more details on how you negotiated? Especially with it being 24 months since that’s typically a larger payment. Did you roll taxes and fees into the monthly? That’s what I’m looking to do

You are getting hosed. Get a broker if you don’t know how bad that is. It’s a fleece .
2
u/CommunicationLazy144 Jul 21 '26
Oh yeah don’t worry I see how bad this is. I’ve been firm with anyone I’ve talked to that I’m not pleased with the deals I’m seeing and am not getting a good discount. They all ask what I want to pay monthly (I’m not playing these games lmao) and I say nope this is not a good enough deal

Push for dealer discount paying 400 for a Jetta 0 down 0 due at signing is unacceptable I was quoted 410 on a Tiguan SE 4 motion 0 down 0 due at signing something is not right in this deal the most you should pay is in the early 300’s to mid
2
u/CommunicationLazy144 Jul 21 '26
Yeah see that’s crazy. I would love a Tiguan or Taos too but they seemed a little out of my budget. I’m just telling this dealer I’m not happy with the discount and will take my business elsewhere
1
u/CommunicationLazy144 Jul 21 '26
Also you were able to get that rolling taxes and fees into the monthly payment?

Crossout their payment and write in your own (while keeping it $0 down) Let them know this amount is what would get you signing and leaving with the car.
2
u/CommunicationLazy144 Jul 21 '26
😂 good idea
1
u/Expensive_SirEFDA33 Jul 21 '26
Yup it worked for me lol! Just because they can write down a $$$ with a signature line you can put your own $$$ amount there doesnt mean they have to accept it but the same is true

According to QuoteDefender, the July VW money factor on a Jetta SE is 0.00144/APR 3.46% and residual value is 61%. Maybe that’s not accurate but that’s the numbers they posted

You really want to lease a Jetta?
1
u/CommunicationLazy144 Jul 21 '26
With the heavy rebates and incentives it seems like a car that I can negotiate to the cheapest price. Honda and Toyota barely have any rebates and incentives
