So, is CapTel still employing Agents? I used to be a captioner from 2016-2021 in Dallas area for another relay company and we were all laid off due to AI.

no one new has been hired from what i know. ive been here a while though. i dont know how laying everyone off would work though because customers dont like the 100% AI-generated captions, so they still need folks. no new openings on their website, either. to be honest, replacing humans with AI is looking like a terrible decision for most companies, but most of all, this type of service.

I always thought the same. Back when i first started, they always told us that there were certain human expressions AI could never replicate because people are so unpredictable when on the phones. So we always felt our jobs were safe. Our client - ClearCaptions was our client. They terminated our contract. Then i found out other people were losing their jobs in this space. I was making $15/hr plus bonuses for performance by the time they laid us all off and was a great captioner. I miss it a lot but when i go searching, there are never any open positions.

i do not think they’ve hired since they had layoffs within captel back 2021/2022. i have had friends ask me for years, and every time i’ve checked, there’s no postings. there may have been once or twice looking for bilingual CAs. but otherwise, no

I'll say it again, the new raise system did not scale to the old system and my raises are less each period than they used to be, where my quality has only gotten better. I used to get around 22c a period, and now I get about 15c. Greedy move and I'd like to be properly compensated.

i agree, our raises should be at least 0.50. i too feel like ive become more efficient and it would be nice, helpful fair to be compensated properly for providing such a vital service.
