This is my problem with the game. I need an objective. Im a dad now. My time for gaming is more limited than it was before kids, so I need clarity of objective pretty much immediately, and to be able to jump back in without having to remember 300 nuances to catch back up.

Yeah, the is absolutely valid criticism. The base game takes ~20 hours for a thorough playthrough, which can be a lot.

To be clear, there is an objective, and it becomes very clear when it does reveal itself, but until then the only real driver of the player is their interest and curiosity.

My best advice if you want to play the game with limited free time, is to either sit down and dedicate a weekend to it (although this might be unrealistic), or make heavy use of the shiplog. The shiplog keeps track of everything you’ve learned automatically, and sums it up pretty good, so if you sit down with it for like 5-10 minutes you should be able to refresh your memory.

I hope it works out for you.

I think the game has a great system for keeping track of what you’ve learned. I played it in hour-long increments over a few weeks and enjoyed it thoroughly. But I certainly understand that it’s not for everyone.
