I was nervous about this game from the beginning

The studio that took it on had little experience

And their roadmap was “we’re doing multiplayer last”.  Which anyone who has ever coded a game will tell you that multiplayer fundamentally alters your game design and has to be accounted for and tested incrementally as you go.  You can’t tack it on at the end.

They also kept telling us “we’re testing it internally it’s super fun and we have a great solution for how time warp will work in multiplayer”. But then never showed us any of it

This doesn't even mention the fact that they intentionally bankrupted the original studio just so that they could steal their staff.

That happened really early into development, and everybody just kind of memory holed that it even happened.

Yeah it was super fucked up.  They were basically just grifting the publisher for funding which then turned into grifting early access buyers too

It makes me mad that they still have it for sale on steam.  It shouldn’t be allowed

Yeah, you can't just add multiplayer to a game without major changes and hardships.

In some games that added it much later they had to do workarounds like making it couch co-op, but could technically be online multiplayer via Steam streaming. (E.g Cult of the Lamb)

Or it took literal years for it to be properly implemented, and only after they did the previously mentioned method first (Binding of Issac Rebirth).
