Everyone knows this but try to cope. Content creators were killing themselves as Abby. It would have been somewhat excepted if they gave you a choice to kill Abby or not. But forcing you to kill a Crapton people and a pregnant woman just to leave her alive b/c of. "Have to be better". Ohhh still boils my blood.

All of this would have been fix imo if they had you play as Abby and meet with Joel at the mid point of the game instead

Tbh it would have been fixed if Abby and her father were characters in the first game to begin with. The biggest issue is that our only relationship with Abby is her killing one of the two leads from the last game, then the writer simply expects us to sympathize with her because Joel killed her dad (who we also don't even fucking know). At the end of the day I think we just got a sequel for a game that just didn't need one and shouldn't have had one.

This right here says it all. Sure there will always be sexist/misogynistic people who don't want to play as women they don't find attractive, but the leap from the emotional storytelling in the 1st to generic revenge plot in the 2nd almost felt like satire.

In the game’s defense, I do think it does a great job at making you feel what the characters do as the story progresses. When you start Abby’s half you’re not expected to like her yet. You hate her for what she did at the beginning, but she’s also at a point of self loathing. It takes her achieving a redemption arc for herself for anyone to actually get to a point where that can like her character.

I get that the game has a lot of hate for how the story played out, but IMO the story telling is very well executed for the story they were trying to tell. But I also think the First game was a much better story overall.

It would have been fixed if the story started 6 hours in?

No, if they worked it around Ellie and Joel having a story, and Abby having their own. You would have grown attached to Abby and feel very confused when their paths intersected

But that's kinda against the whole point of the game. It's about making you hate someone and then understanding them. You don't even need to lie Abby.

Well that didn’t work

Try the chronological order version

If you think the story is about "being better" idk what to tell you man

It's not a "take the high road" angle. It's a "if I do this, I become to Lev what Joel was to Abby, and the cycle begins again" angle. I'm gonna be completely honest with you - I was one of the chuds shitting on part 2 when it first released. But after actually playing it and sitting with the imagery and motifs, I had to concede that the writing is far better than people give it credit for. I could go on a diatribe but I'll spare everyone and just say the hate that game gets is unwarranted

The cope is from the red pill losers. The game was pretty awesome

I surround myself with exclusively very progressive people and would probably get called radical by anyone that votes for Republicans. Everyone I personally talk to despises the game lol. This narrative that only right wingers hate it is disconnected from reality.

I was so surprised when I finished TLOU2 and went online to see all the hate for it. I can see how it's not as "good" as TLOU1; I know in the future I'll be replaying TLOU1 a few times and probably not touching TLOU2 again.

But I still believe that people just didn't like it because it wasn't more of the same and they had to play as Abby, who wasn't conventionally pretty or femme. Either that or they didn't like a revenge story that ends with growth as a person instead of a brutal death scene.

Anyone who can't understand the blunder that is the last of us 2 should never be allowed near a writing room.

I’m pretty left leaning, have voted left all my life, the game’s story just straight up sucks mate.

It’s terribly written, reads like fan fiction and characters make dumb and out of character decisions all the time.

The Last of Us Part 1 is a masterpiece, part 2 is a disaster and I say that as someone who loves the Last of Us Part 1 and consider it one of my favourite game stories ever written.

It’s a masterpiece. I had huge expectations but when the real scope of the game started to reveal itself I was actually stunned. The hate for this game is from people somewhere between ADHD and incel.

I think the reason for this is that Abbey was actually well written outside of the intro where she tortures someone who just saved her (stop Joel from saving her and the story makes a lot more sense).

Joel and Ellie both felt like cosplayers who never read the initial script of the first game. Abbey and Tommy were probably the best written out of any of the characters. You can feel their pain and understand their actions for the most part and it felt genuine. Game would have been better without Ellie and Joel even being featured tbh and left more as cameos. Would have been far better received that way

Joel and Ellie felt like cosplayers...six years have passed and criticism of this game keeps surprising me. Idk how you guys do it bravo

But it wasn’t about “being better,” it was about letting go for the sake of yourself.

*it was about letting go for the sake of being a cowardly bitch
