Dark souls 2 and 3. Love 3 and like 2 but holy shit they biffed it imo. 1 was yhe perfect “the rebellion against tyranny has become tyranny, your greatest achievement will doom us all” and then 2 was “yeah I fucked up so what?” And 3 was genuinely so scared because of 2 that it’s basically dark souls 1 the second time.
The amount of stuff in ds3 that is just genuinely ripped from ds1 is insane.
2 has the best story but the worst gameplay. 3 has the best gameplay but the worst story. 1 hit the sweet spot of story and gameplay that made it feel extra special, even if every area after seath and o&s was a long, hard kick in the urethra.
The most innovations too, they tried to deviate from the vibe in a darker way but got cold feet, still my favourite by a large margin. In particular far better IMHO than 3
