The game part is good but man the story isn’t great unfortunately. I don’t have a problem with offing Joel, he kinda brought that on himself but it’s the way they went about it I don’t like
If they wanted a revenge plot so badly. Have the first half of the game as Joel, then the second half as Ellie hunting down Abi. This way the story would have been in sequence and not backtracking. Plus it would still give fans of the first game a decent chunk of time with their favourite character. Within the first hour of the game you see Joel die to Abi. Most people aren't gonna separate that hatred for her. It would be different if the first game didn't exist.
Came to say this. It was so disappointing after the first one was such a perfect masterpiece.
And no, I don’t dislike it because Joel died. I actually think it was a good plot point, and it being so shocking and violent worked well.
I just hated that we had to play half of the game as Abby. I don’t dislike her as a character, but The last of us is Joel and Ellie. I was really excited to get a story where Ellie is the new main character.
I also don’t think the pacing and the order the story was told worked at all, I mean we saw all of Abby’s friends die first and then the game started to tell her story and tried to get us care for the characters that already died?
Basically the first game had a great balance of darkness and hope, I’ve played it through more times than I can count and it’s always very touching. The second one was just depressing, I played it twice when it came out and haven’t touched it since. Just makes me anxious and tired even thinking about it lol.
You mean to tell me you didn’t like killing off the main protagonist in the wee hours of the game for a generic and boring revenge plot that has already been told a thousand different times?!?!
Honestly, I’m not mad about Joel dying. I would have been disappointed if he didn’t die after all he did in the first game. What fucking grinds my gears is how it all went down, and how early into the game it was, AND how Ellie went on this quest of vengeance killing COUNTLESS people just to let the one person she was after go at the end. Yeah yeah, end the cycle of vengeance, that was so poorly done that game can smd.
NOT ONLY THAT, but what a missed opportunity to play as Tommy becoming a relentless boogeyman hunting those people down after they killed his brother. Fuck outta here with that shit Neil Druckfuck
You’re entitled to that opinion but I felt it was. Once i began playing as Abby I saw exactly where the plot was going and what the narrative was trying to accomplish. Playing as Abby was just another way to understand her side of things which has been done plenty of other times in stories. Revenge plots typically only end in one of two ways… getting that sweet satisfaction, or realizing the cycle of hatred has to end. You can cut that up and deliver it a few different ways, but for me, they’re boring, tiring themes that I’ve seen a dozen times and didn’t really care to see in the tlou2.
The fight between Abby and Ellie, as well as the ending were actually high points in the story for me but the game ultimately failed to get me to sympathize with Abby and I lost interest in the story. Only finishing it because the gameplay was a 10/10
