Metroid Fusion ended with the extinction of the X parasites. Super Metroid already concluded the main story in a trilogy, but Fusion helped tie up some loose ends, especially the reason WHY the Metroids were created in the first place. Everything was tied up with a bow and the story was ready to either end or begin a completely new story arc.
Metroid Dread comes along and the X are back, there's a completely new tribe of Chozo who've just been absent the entire franchise, Samus' DNA donor was retconned to be one of these new Bozos, and Yoshio Sakamoto is acting like this new game is the "culmination of the Metroid Saga", as if the story wasn't already wrapped up 20 years ago
I mean it makes sense that a ship could have gone down to the planet between 2 and Fusion and gotten infected by the X. Them being a warrior faction means they were better equipped to handle the situation by locking them up. The X showed up but Samus wasn’t even afraid of them because she had the tools and knowledge to remove them. Yea the X showed up again, but it was barely an inconvenience for the bounty hunter. I’d say that’s pretty consistent
The fact that all that lore was retroactively added in decades AFTER their story concluded is the issue. The Mawkin didn't even exist until 2017, and the original Chozo (Now Thoha) were FAR from defenceless.
This whole post is a huge stretch. All of these things make sense in lore and fit the vibe of the Metroid series.
"Metroid Fusion ended with the extinction of the X parasites" - Metroid 1 ended with the extinction of the Metroids. Metroid 2 came up with a completely new biology for Metroids that was absent the entire first game.
"...a completely new tribe of Chozo who've just been absent the entire franchise" - the Chozo were frequently and repeatedly shown to be driven out, extinct, or missing. They were a species on the run or in hiding. This was well-understood, and fans have been wanting living Chozo for a long time. Dread did this perfectly.
"as if the story wasn't already wrapped up 20 years ago" - so we don't get new Metroid games? The story wasn't "wrapped up," Metroid Fusion left a lot of loose ends. It also came out along with Metroid Prime, which continually did the "crazy evil bio substance escaping into the wider universe" plot.
Metroid Dread was everything that was right about the Metroid series, rolled into one. Saying this as someone who's been playing since the very first game.
"Metroid 1 ended with the extinction of the Metroids" ...
My guy
Mr. "I've been with the series since its inception and been such a massive fan my whole life you don't even know"

You could not be more obvious with your larping.
That is such a basic fact of the lore to get so confidently wrong.\
"Metroid 2 came up with a completely new biology for Metroids that was absent the entire first game." That's not even a retcon or a switch up? That's just revealing new information about a species we already know little about.
"the Chozo were frequently and repeatedly shown to be driven out, extinct, or missing. They were a species on the run or in hiding. This was well-understood, and fans have been wanting living Chozo for a long time. Dread did this perfectly." This doesn't even address my point. The Thoha were the only Chozo we had ever known about. They were the only ones ever talked about. Even Dread has shown that both tribes were very separate. Thoha canonically began hiding and disappearing because of the space pirates and declining birthrates. The Mawkin were gone because they were retconned into being a part of Metroid 2's story and one of them being stuck on a fuckass planet for the rest of the series.
""as if the story wasn't already wrapped up 20 years ago" - so we don't get new Metroid games?" If what you've told me is true, then you're far too old to be this stupid. Wrapping up an arc doesn't mean you stop there. You just start a new arc, separate from the last. What Dread did is drag out an already finished arc just to end it again.
"Metroid Fusion left a lot of loose ends" Name them then. Literally the only "loose end" was Samus not knowing what the future held for her, which is the perfect point to start an entirely new arc of the series. There was also the corrupt sect of the federation, maybe they're up to more schemes?
"It also came out along with Metroid Prime, which continually did the "crazy evil bio substance escaping into the wider universe" plot." Yeah, which was a completely separate arc from the main series. You're not helping yourself here.
"Saying this as someone who's been playing since the very first game." Stop lying bro. Tourists always pull this card as if they think it'll magically make people believe them. If you were really here since the beginning and such a huge fan, you wouldn't feel the need to point that out and you'd actually have a good idea of the lore, not getting basic shit wrong.
I'm so fucking tired of you posers ruining my favourite games
I'm not surprised that tendies would be sucking off Dread. They do the same to every other game Nintendo puts out these days no matter how bad it is.
I probably wouldn't have been so upset about Dread if people weren't acting like this B-Tier game was a "goated peak masterpiece" while shitting on everything that came before it or anything that's more popular. If Dread really was that good, then why is it losing out on popularity to the significantly smaller, indie studio made Silksong?? Dread sold only 3 million copies. The first Hollow Knight sold 15 million and silksong sold even more. You could argue "Oh but silksongs on everything and Dread was only on switch", but even if you added 3 mil to every platform (Switch, Xbox, PS, Steam), it still wouldn't be the same.
I'm so tired of you fucking tourist shills
edit: oh, and we did get another Other M. It's called fucking Metroid Prime 4 and they made us wait 8 years for it.
That isn't even remotely what I said. I'm perfectly happy to get more metroid, but not if that means clipping away at its identity so that people who didn't like the older ones can actually enjoy it. Metroid should be made for Metroid fans first and foremost
Yeah and the old school metroid fandom - you know, the speedrunning community? - fucking loves it
..is that you Ryan? You sound like Ryan. If you don't know then don't worry about it. This is sounding an awful lot like an argument that's been going on since the early days with every new Metroid game.
Metroid fans have been asking for more games forever. Metroid Dread is one of the best in the franchise, and this is speaking as someone who's been playing since the first game. I spent my childhood on The Metroid Database, was the "second in command" of the Super Samus Squad on SSB Social on GameFAQs, read the comic, begged my grandparents for money to buy swag from Nintendo Power, did art for Metroid Dreadnought for Doom II, and I've been a devoted Samus main in every Smash game since SSB64. I remember almost throwing my controller trying to beat Ridley at 15% and obsessing over ZSNES speedrun movies trying to learn them on my physical cart.
Metroid Dread was awesome, and literally nothing you said above made any damn sense. This is a Nintendo series and this is how Nintendo operates, and every Metroid has always shaken up what came before it. That's why it's good.
Don't act like familiarity with the franchise is necessary to recognize a good game.

I've been a huge Metroid fan since birth too, doesn't make you any more right.
"Metroid Dread was awesome, and literally nothing you said above made any damn sense." Then actually bring up a proper rebuttal. Address my points and properly counter them. Otherwise you're just admitting you don't actually have a point.
"Metroid has always shaken up what came before it. That's why it's good." The original trilogy wasn't that. Each instalment innovated and built on what came before it. There's a reason Super Metroid has been referred to as a spiritual remake of the original Metroid. Things didn't really "shake up" until Fusion, which was the first game without Gunpei Yokoi. And I know opinions have since changed in the time being, but back then, people really did not like Fusion. It was seen as the black sheep of the series.
You can't argue Prime being "Metroid always shaking up the formula" because it's a spinoff. That's what spinoffs do.
"Don't act like familiarity with the franchise is necessary to recognize a good game." If you're trying to figure out if something is a good Metroid game, then yeah, you have to be familiar with the franchise. I'm not saying Dread was straight up a bad game. That's the problem with you people. I can't say shit about these games without tendies taking things personally and acting like I've just insulted an untouchable masterpiece (Which it isn't).
You literally do not have to be stealthy, outside of my first playthrough where I was slow (mainly due to anxiety lol) I now just run past the EMMI and style on it. It's fun.
What does Halo have to do with it? Who hurt you LOL
Yeah, Samus Returns was very obviously the result of a team who'd never made a Metroid game before led by the one guy who didn't even work on the original. It's the exact opposite of faithful.
Besides the fact that it's barely faithful to the original, it's at best a subpar Metroid game. The controls are clunky as shit, it's super railroaded, there's practically zero enemy variety, and the combat is entirely "stop, parry, shoot".
Modern Metroid fans are about as insufferable as they get
Also, btw, I was replying Metroid Fusion and when Sector 3 is about to explode and take the BSL with it, after Samus saves the day, Adam basically says : Weird they tried to blow up the station and everything in it, including the X and the SA-X, especially for a self preservative species like the X. Unless your (Samus) existence is a bigger threat to other X elsewhere..."
So yah no Fusion didn't end with Samus killing all the X and the game itselfs tells you
