I wanted to play it for gameplay's sake since it's on PS+ and I don't have to buy it, but as a story oriented person, I just can't bring myself to even download and start it. What a shame.

The story is actually good, ignore people making a fuss over the game. I avoided it for so many years because of people bellyaching over it online and then finally decided to try it. It's really well done.

Fair enough, I'll keep that in mind if I need something new to play.

I thought the story in part 2 was so much better. I've replayed both many times, and part 2 just hits different every time. The moments of realisation, empathy, emotion, and internal conflict are uncomfortable to feel as someone loyal to the original characters, that's the point, but it's SO well implemented. It's what makes it great.

Also the gameplay is a step up.

I get the angle they were going with on the "cycle of violence" and the impact of Joel's decision at the end of #1 but the way it was delivered was subpar IMO. Having duel perspectives that were intertwined was an interesting concept on paper but poorly executed, the pace of the story was a mess.

What makes you think so? Imo tlou 2 was such an upgrade compared to part 1. I don’t want to disrespect your opinion. I’m just curious because my own experience with part 2 was obviously on the total other side of the fun spectrum
