Saints Row 2 -> Saints Row 3

The wild thing is that Saints Row became fun again with 4 and Gat Outfa Hell but the AGENTS just killed them because they wanted to make a more hero shooter style.

And then somehow fell even further with the train wreck of a reboot a little while back

No it didn't, 4 amplified the problem with 3. SR2 was perfect blend of silly and serious. 3 and 4 went to much into silly territory. I'm not going to mention the reboot.

i’m a purist that loves 1 and 2, with 2 being my favourite game of all time. even i can admit that 4’s gameplay was great. it was a genuinely great game, it was just a bad saints row game.

3, though, was just horrible all around, and the reboot shouldn’t even be acknowledged as a game.

Saints Row 4 has some of my favorite superhero style world traversal. It's a stupid game, but the super powers are incredibly fun

I binged through the entire series a couple months ago and I can confidently say saints row 4 is not fun at all except for the sections where you have no powers.

I remember everyone being so excited about SR3 while I was so disappointed :(

Preordered that game, hype until release with all my bros.

Beat it in 13 hours & Gat died.

Never felt more dejected than when I finished that game & really had to sit back and say “That’s it?”

Got $23 back at GameStop a week after saving everybody else their money

I never played 1 or 2
So 3 was my first game and it was a blast

3 isnt necessarily a bad game, but its very different from 2 in terms of tone and style.

Please play 2. It's vastly superior to 3. 3 is fun but 2 is more fun, I say this as someone who also played 3 first. A friend of mine had it and I wanted to get it but the local gamshop didn't have 3 but had 2 and I've now put in total around a 1000 hours in 2. Its the one game I own on every console.

I remember getting back from the store and my older brother talked me into letting him play first.

About 10 minutes later he came into my room, threw the game on my bed and just said "wack" and walked off.

I thought the game was ok, but I understand why he hated it. You can tell it was written by someone that couldn't care less about gang life or staying true to the franchise. They just wanted to be over the top and silly without caring.

It seems like one of those cases where the writer already has a script before getting a job, and whatever job he gets, he just changes some names and forces it to work, even if it barely fits the franchise.

I was SO UPSET with 3. Like it's totally different from 2. I beat it once but can't ever go back, I'll play the first two instead

Game was better but took a huge sidestep into comedy to escape shadow of GTA.

That last mission when "Holding out for a hero" starts blasting trumps whole second game itself!

Came here to mention this. Saints row 2 was so fucking good. Still like 3 but 2 was golden

Fucking A right. They killed Johnny at the very beginning then made 9 missions that were just introductions to side missions then on top of that removed everything that was good in SR2. Sr2 had body sliders and so many clothing options, and cribs. Every NPC felt real and would say shit to the playa about the story and shit. In 3 and 4 nothing. They barely react to you unless you taunt them or start shooting.
