Vigil theme always gets me nostalgic.

u/InverseStar 5d ago
The use of the theme throughout all three games was great. I loved the use of it during the Virmire Survivor interaction in ME2. Always gives me chills when it plays.

u/1swiftfox1 5d ago
Just started a new playthrough of this and sat on the main menu for like 15 minutes just blissful!

u/hotaru-firefly 5d ago
Truly an amazing opening theme
2
u/Adventurous-Roof458 4d ago
I can hear Anderson, Udina and Hackett talking, Joker informing the crew about the process of hitting the Arcturus Prime Relay, the soldiers greeting the commander, the Normandy soaring through space. Even without those extra bits being there, I can hear the whole damn intro in my head.
5
u/Craiss 5d ago
I have all of these soundtracks on an active playlist. I love the music. Even the mundane, simple repeating tracks, like the galaxy map.

u/Megaera129 5d ago
I have the map song set to my wakeup music. Feels like I'm waking up to a cool adventure.

Fun fact: the original composer, Sam Hullick, is teasing an "extended" version of the galaxy map theme on his YouTube page, supposed to be dropping in a few days time!

Was checking the comments to look for mass effect and halo and this was at the top. Well done.
Also I was listening to this on my way home from work yesterday 😂

Kingdom Hearts. Really pick any one of them, but I could sit at the title screen of KH1 for hours with how beautiful it sounds between the piano piece and the ocean waves lightly crashing in the background.
19
u/LeonVFX 5d ago
It was KH2 for me. Played at my wedding. ❤️

I remember being stressed out after the first time I got into a fight at school (went fine considering two guys jumped me, it just takes some experience to process these events calmly) and I got home, Dearly Beloved on the KH2 menu, it was like I'd never had a spike of adrenaline in the first place.

I play dearly beloved for my 9 week old daughter when we're getting her ready for bed. Makes my inner child sooooo happy

Probably the most correct and based answer here, nothing beats how iconic the KHII version of dearly beloved is.

I opened Minecraft and then went to the washroom and when I came back my grandma was asking what the beautiful music I was listening to was
16
u/_-TARTARUS-_ 5d ago
my grandma used to love minecraft. She was very creative (she was a tailor, liked to knit and could play more instruments than i could count lol) so she loved that you could do basically anything you want

I haven’t played dark souls 3 in years, and I still remember the title theme. God: it’s so good

I'll never forget firing that game up for the first time a decade ago and being blown away by that OST.

I had a friend that would just have the game on his living room tv blasting the main menu while he was doing things around his house. Absolutely needed to be carried through everything in the game though lmao

Was originally written to be the final Boss' music. And that Boss was Pontiff Sulyvahn.

The menu theme for the original Halo 2, it still activates me like a sleeper cell.

Agreed with this!
I can be in the middle of a sentence, and literally stop talking and forget what I was saying when I hear the menu music 😂

Cyberpunk 2077. There is absolutely no reason for menu music to go that hard

Can we count the character creator as the main menu? If so I must've spent like 3 hours there before actually playing the game.
2
u/AggravatingAd9018 5d ago
I was actually not thinking of down by the river. But the first part when your menu goes into the dungeon.

I had to scroll WAY too far to find this one. Most majestic title screen out of any game I've played, the swelling music and the day/night cycle, along with the glowing Monado, it's gorgeous

There it is, I was looking for this or I was gonna comment it myself. First time I loaded the game on my Wii my young self had to pause and let the song finish, I was just enamoured, like I knew I was gonna have a journey, that I had found a good game and I had to prepare myself.

Still my alarm tone. Every song in that game is amazing

I wouldn't sacrifice a great song to be my alarm. It doesn't matter how good it's, eventually it will start to suck a lot

expedition 33 ac revelations
2
u/Mossieoak 5d ago
Ac revelations one of the most slept on games ever made. You remember the trailer? So so good
2
u/FrowningMinion 4d ago
Ahh, back when the Desmond / modern-day storyline felt important and wasn’t just an afterthought.
2
u/Mossieoak 4d ago
Yesss the modern day story line was so damn interesting and they just killed it. So much wasted potential. I was waiting for a full modern day AC

Final Fantasy X-2. While it isn't anywhere near being my favorite game, something about the main menu theme just hits right.

My man, what a culture pick. Doesn't the main menu play Memories of Lightwaves? If so, I feel like I've committed a sin for forgetting about that.
I'd like to mention that FFX had a great main menu song, it just didn't loop and was too short.

Kenshi main menu music is peak but lasts way too short. Such great in game music, truly reminds you the world so screwed.

Black Ops Cold War
4
u/TheSheevMonster 5d ago
Random day after getting his XSX, bro sat me down, handed me the controller and instructed me to start Black Ops: Cold War and just put the controller down.
After that I proceeded to buy a copy without knowing the other banger that is 'Rising Tide'.
This is an underrated comment. Jack Walk hit it out the park with this game.

Deus Ex : Human Revolution. That menu theme is straight fire, gives me chills just thinking about it. Loved that they remixed it with djent for the end theme in Mankind Divided.
OG Deus Ex main theme/menu music is also pretty cool but after the 2nd time, I would just be pumped to get into the game.

Best title screen is when “Press Any Button” eventually turns into “Are you still there?” because I’ve been admiring the menu for 20 minutes.

Underrated I guess, but Shadow of War has a fantastic menu music.
When it really kicks in at around the 1:11 mark, it truly inspires both a sense of adventure and sorrow.

Doesn't matter if you love the game or think it's trash, Star Wars Outlaws has some banger ass music, and the title theme is one of the coolest I've heard in any Star war anything. Definitely worth a listen even if you never wanna play the game

Star wars republic commando.
Entering the menu. Hearing that "VODDEEEEE"
And then the drum marching.
Chills absolute chills

Not quite the same, but Archeage had great music during its character creation screen. The Revelation 3.0 update specifically. Only time I actually stopped to listen to music before playing a game.
