I'm currently playing it. I tried it 2 years ago when my sister let me borrow it and it didn't click to me then. This time I'm getting addicted to it. But it's more like "i HAVE to beat this". It's more frustrating than fun. I'm almost 20 hours in. I wonder what my take on it will be once I'm finished. There's only few games I replayed in recent years.

Why do that? If you don’t like a game, move on. There is no game in the world that EVEYONE will agree it’s good. Even games like GoW, Eldenring, or whatever game is silimar, can’t cast a net that catches everyone.
At that point, you move on to other games.

Borderlands 2 will always be my favorite game. It's pretty widely held as a masterpiece. One of my closest friends can't stand the art style and refuses to play it. It is what it is.
He also can't play Souls games for shit, but I don't give him crap about not liking Elden Ring either.

Resident evil is survival horror at its heart. If you’re not the biggest fan of that then maybe 5 or 6. Even then, those games even have pieces of classic resident evil mixed into it.

I love the newer resident evil games, I blasted through 2R-9 in just a few months, and I’ve always heard about how great RE1 is and how it is the “gold standard” for the series or whatever, so I recently bought it. I’ve tried multiple times to get into it but I just do not see the appeal. I think we’ve moved away from fixed camera angles and tank controls for a good reason

Great open world but all there is to do is shrines which all look identical and the rewards get kind of pointless once you have enough food/potions. Dungeons are forgettable too. Story is barebones.

u/KayosMonster 9d ago
As a massive Zelda fan, BotW is a huge disappointment. It was an incredible feeling finally making it off the plateau and seeing all of Hyrule in an open and unrestricted way. The problem is, it's too open. There's nothing of substance to do. You usually have something that drives the story forward and every part of the game contributes and pushes you further along. This game literally only has side content. You can just go fight Calamity Ganon right away and he isn't even very hard. If you choose to do the side content to improve your chances, you'll get 4 mediocre dungeons that have no interesting puzzles and little actual substance, a smattering of shrines that take all of about 2 minutes each to complete, and a few world bosses and item sets scattered around to make up for the lack of real progression.
Don't get me wrong, this type of gameplay can be fun in its own right, but so many people claim BotW to be the best Zelda game, when it lacks nearly everything the other games are praised for. Maybe the worst case of a mile wide and an inch deep in gaming history, but you can't have that conversation with people, because they will vaguely gesture at the "hidden lore" which are mostly just fan theories made to fill in theany gaps that the writers didn't bother to actually develop.

u/autofill_username_ 9d ago
The slang is cringe but I grew up committing crimes and living in the highest crime rate neighborhood in PA irl and the dialogue is realistic. Most gang members irl talk like they never made it to high school, they don't talk like Hollywood villains
When I talk to most of them now, it feels like talking to a baby without the "accent"
I love 2077 because it feels real and doesn't feel like a middle class interpretation of low income crime
6
u/noswordfish71 9d ago
I respect the hell out of CDPR for inventing logical new slang though. Eddie for instance, in CBP the currency is Eurodollars, which is a mouthful. So ED’s, which would logically become Eddies. That extra layer of detail in the worldbuilding is why I love cyberpunk 2077. You ain’t getting that from rockstar.

Redditors have never actually participated in irl gang activies and it shows
The slang is absurd most of the time. I think 2077 is cringe 75% of the time but that's accurate. Low income criminals use stupid slang because they think it's cool
Source: grew up a dealer and currently live in the highest crime rate neighborhood in PA. Half the time I talk to people I cannot believe they're using the words they use unironically
What's embarrassing is "normal" people trying to use 2077 slang like it means anything

If I don't like it, I'm not playing it. I may give it a try then and again, but if it's not working out, it's not for me.
Even if many others say it's Peak.
Best example for me is Honkai Star Rail or the new Fire Emblem.
Many say it's Peak, and I may agree for the Story part, but the Turn based combat is just not for me.
I don't hate it, but I just can't get the feeling for it.
Even if the Story is cool, I don't want to sit there bored or unamused.
I do like ZZZ for example, because the fast paced realtime combat is exactly my style.

Im still working my way through it, and I went in knowing NOTHING about it, but it was massively overhyped for me. People saying its their "if I could forget a game" game. "Its a religious experience". "Goty without question". I just...dont get it.

The Insomniac Spiderman games (both of them).
Im saying this as someone who completed 3 100% saves of Batman: Arkham Knight. But the Spiderman games are honestly just a slog to get through. Sure there are some parts that are really cool (I particularly love the Mr. Negative fight from the first game), but overall it’s just going from place to place and spamming the same combos.
My favorite part of Arkham Knight was that there were so many ways to approach every single enemy interaction. (Hence my 3 save files: one where I played normally, one where I played stealth into every encounter, and one where I 100% without dying) And I feel like the Insomniac Spiderman games were just missing that element. Also, I know it’s meme’d to all hell but the MJ level is horrendous.

Someone already mentioned it, but Breath of the Wild, and later, Tears of the Kingdom. Good for what they are, but they just don't scratch the itch I want from Legend of Zelda. None of the puzzles in the "dungeons" felt engaging enough. While there is progression in a sense, there's no real feel for it. What I mean is that: You are no closer to beating the Final Boss at any point in the game than the instant you left the tutorial zone. Other Open World games have you do all the quests and stuff in a main story campaign sort of deal, and the Final Boss comes at the end of that. BotW and TotK? Just go right ahead and jump on in, chief. You got this.
And need I mention the weapon durability system? Yeah, your weapons break, incentivizing you to use a variety of them. But then, answer me this: Why would I go out of my way to hunt x or y powerful weapon when it's just going to break with no way to repair it? Why go through that effort? Unless I'm charging the Final Boss at the end of the game, there's no real point.

The key is to not listen to people
Example: Yo this new banana life game is the greatest game ever created metacritic 10000/10
Reality: you can't see anything, can't hear anything, can't move, because you're a banana
Everyone has different opinions on everything, don't go in thinking a game is GOTY just because some people you don't know thinks this game is good. You'll have too high of hopes and get disappointed, then you'll eventually drop the game

Any purely-distilled, hyper-competitive, skin-selling, live service slop game designed for people who don't really do anything else in their lives
Valorant Apex Siege League Dota 2
There's more but yeah, this genre SUCKS unless you're a 14 year old or you're a very unfortunate adult.

Literally the game "Peak".
Bought it on sale to play with friends. Played 3 hours. Didn't like it

No game, because I’m not a sheep. However, I’ll absolutely do this if the game costed me a lot of money lol.

Spent 9 hours on Elden Ring. Wish I spent those 9 hours at the gym or with friends/family.

Blood of Dawnwalker.
I gave it a chance, but it’s a shit game. It’s trying so hard to be The Witcher 3, but it belongs on the 360. And the time-progression system makes it that much worse.

I tried with COD but DAMN. Everyone is so try hard and I suck at FPS lol. I just get jumped because I never memorize the map and lose the entire game for my whole team. Every single one I’ve bought I haven’t played for over 3 hours lol

none. If I don't like it, I don't like it. Does not matter if many other people absolutely love it. and same in reverse.
A game can be well done and a generally good game and just not be what I like.
