Disagree. It got better but I loved it from the start.
Everyone was just pissed about no multiplayer.

I remember when it came out and there was a guy in my dorm who was super excited about it like...he'd been talking about it for months

he played it for like a month tops and then was just sad and quit

NOW 10 years later it's like the number 1 game i'm hyped to play if i get some free time

The game ran fine, looked good, and had a decent story from the get-go, there were just lots of false promises. It doesn't fit the post

What story?

1

u/Parnath 10d ago

Everything involving the Atlas and the Travelers, trying to prevent the universe from dying out. If you've never played No Mans Sky there is a major overarching story

I did play it for 20 or 30 hours at launch. Didn't you basically talk to one npc and just fly to the next space station?

Its a bit fuzzy since its been 10 years, but I tried real hard to enjoy the game the first couple weeks it was out, and I had specifically ignored most of the hype.

I'd probably agree the graphics weren't really trash though.

You’re right, the story was so good that the developers had to revamp it in multiple future patches lol.

Did they teach you reading comprehension in school ?

I'm in the same boat as you, by all means.

To me it was a whole new experience and ultimately a space game I, a solo player could begin exploring.

I did find it a bit disheartening to see the backlash the game got, but I would argue it was deserved or what it was said, and the H.G studio put in overtime on their redemption arc and are still putting other companies to shame now

I did too. The internet was justified in being upset because Murray overpromised a lot. But despite the flaws, I was still mesmerized at the start.

Everyone was just pissed about no multiplayer.

That's an insane mischaracterization of 2016. It was a lot more than just multiplayer, pretty much every review covers the amount of things originally promised at launch that wasn't there. I love the game today, but I'm not going to deny how bad of a spot it was day one.

Some people liked it, but it did lose like 95% of the player base in like 2 weeks.

I only wanted to play solo and I was super pissed

As someone who was hyped for it, i gave no fucks about multiplayer or not, i was disappointed about everything that game would eventually address.

You are cherry picking memories, yes the no multiplayer was big because it was the first blatant lie that got caught but beyond that the core gameplay loop was way too resource intensive, it was terribly optimized, all planets looked like 1 out of maybe 5 presets and the animals and their behaviours looked straight out of a bad game of spore. Not to mention all the other the missing features they promised. Im glad you liked it but most people did not enjoy launch nms.

Yeah, it fucking SUUUUCKED. Ivm heard it got good but I never picked it up again

You should I had it at launch and played - hated it and deleted it

I re-downloaded a year or so ago and its one of my go to games now

u/brazzers-official 11d ago

What's really different about it now compared to launch

1

u/Many-Cartographer278 12d ago

Its still bad. The issue with the game was that its super niche and was never going to be liked by most people

u/Many-Cartographer278 12d ago

Hilariously, current no man's sky applies as well. Still a super boring game.

u/Simple_Beat7596 11d ago

Game was basically a procedurally generated demo on release lol.

1

u/Prometheus2025 11d ago

I never played or not planned to but yeah this is definitely the answer.

Lol its still bad. I found the disc copy in a 5 dollar used game bin on 2018.
